Well I have read it an article on seochat about link bait, my question to you is what you think about link bait, is it good for your site or not, some say it is some say is not....
what is the risk here?

so, you are asking if making interesting content and/or tools for your website is a good idea or not?
really.... its a no brainer, even if it doesn't do wonders for SEO it will make people like you a lot more, and get you added to peoples bookmarks

Link bait is just a fancy term coined within the blogosphere for doing what Web developers have been doing for years. And that is creating quality content and publishing it on a Web site.
Of course it's good. Good quality content is good for search engines. It's good for human visitors. It's good for the site owner. It's good for everybody. :)

Link baits are good once it gets the job done, that is having other sites notice your bait and linking naturally to your site. Just a thing though, you should still need to promote your link bait. It can only serve its purpose if other sites finds it ;)
