I hope someone out there can give me some guidance.

What I want to do is set up e-mail for a domain I own ourartpage.com
This domain is currently not hosted but the dns is set up for mydomain.com and it is just
parked with them.
I am trying to set it up so that mail to anyname@ourartpage.com works through everyone.net,
looking at this companies instructions it indicates the MX records need to be changed at
mydomain.com. When I read the instructions at mydomain.com I don't know what to enter
for the mx record hostname or even how to enter it.Mydomains instruction talk about making a profile name and then amending it on another page. Can't find anyway to make a profile name. Should it be everyone.net's hostname? On the everyone.net
instructions it indicates
" Your MX records must point to our servers in order to complete the setup of your
fully-branded service."

If someone has done this and knows how to guide me help would be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with mydomain.com's forms, but what you want to end up with is...

ourartpage.com. pointing to sitemail.everyone.net.

A typical zone file entry would look like this...

ourartpage.com. IN MX 10 sitemail.everyone.net.

This will direct all mail for the ourartpage.com domain to everyone.net's mail server. You will then need to set up accounts for the specific users you wish to accept mail for over there. Everyone.net does not support wildcards such as *@ourartpage.com last I checked.

Any good hosting company should be ready and able to assist you in this endeavor.

Setting your mail for everyone.net is not too hard. Your host should know what needs to be done.

First, your host will need to modify your zone file, so your email will all go to everyone.net instead of your site. That also means you need to open your own email accounts through there too. You will loose your autoresponders and any other mail functions through your site.
A lot of our customers have chose to buy a sub domain or a seperate domain name to run the email from so they can still have their main web sites email services.

OK,
after the zone file is changed, on most linux/unix systems, there are two other files they will have to remove your listing in so all the email goes to everyone.net .
they are usually located like this:
/etc/localdomains
/etc/userdomains

some servers will be slightly different on these two files, depending on what email program they use, but there are the two files on all servers I know of.

Most hosts know how, or have a tech that can set things right up for you if they allow the service.

With mydomain.com, changing your MX record to point to everyone.net e-mail server is very simple. The folks at mydomain.com have made this process very easy from when I first signed up with them.

First, make sure your domain is using MyDNS service instead of MyDomain service. Under MyDNS, you will have to manually create the www subdomain.

Next, modify the MX record to point to everyone.net. You don't need to enter any code because there is an everyone.net option for you to choose. Wait a day or two for the changes to take affect.

Then logon to everyone.net, and verify the DNS settings. If you receive no error message, your changes have been successful.

Good luck with your everyone.net activities. I find that making changes in everyone.net is not that simple. Now and then, I have to resubmit my changes several times before they are accepted. For one of my domains, because of unresolved errors, I had to create a new everyone.net account for it, meaning all old e-mail accounts and mails were abandoned. Fortunately, very little e-mail users were affected. In the end, I felt the need to have my own TOS document in addition to everyone.net's.

Thanks for the replies.

Is it better to run e-mail functions through your host most of the time rather than use an outside source like everyone.net? Can someone give me the pros and cons as they see it.

One reason why I was looking at using someone like everyone.net was that there seemed to be no restriction on number of accounts set up and if I had names with no hosting just redirected to the main domain I could allow e-mail users to choose these names as well giving them a choice.
