I would like to thank Chavvon and Hostmania/Transoptics. We finally recieved our server but it was WELL worth the wait. I get an constant 32MS from http://www.hostpulse.com/app/networktools/measurewebsitespeed.asp

Are you taking the Internap or Cogent bandwidth server?

Please try to run "wget ftp://ftp.uu.net/uumap.tar.Z" and post the result here.

I heard from eservers that they cap the Internap bandwidth to 10 Mbps, so I suspect that the maximum download speed should be around 1.25 MB/s. This is quite good but still much lower than what I can get from Webreseller (up to 4.5 MB/s).

why should they cap it as they'r measuring by GB?

Can anyone beat 10ms? Perhaps being in Florida gives an unfair advantage...

Although, Vortech is closer to Miami (better routing too, they're in Orlando, the provider-christmas-tree of Florida), and gets 37ms. I can't remember anyone else in Florida except prioritycolo, who is in Miami, but we all know that packets get to take pictures of lots of US landmarks before reaching its destination, even if it's in the same city.

Hope this doesn't sound 'bash-like' for you finger-pointers out there. Just some fun in a fun thread. :)

I can beat that further - I get 4ms from VDI to NAC and vice versa - maybe I'm cheating cause they are about 15 minutes from each other

I can beat that further- 0.37ms from my computer to the cable modem about 30 feet away.

What's up with Hostmania? The site has been down for days (and is still down) and no answer to my email (I wrote to chavvon@transoptic.com). Does anyone know what's going on with them? Or is the dead web site a hint that the server business is shutting down?

clocker1996

chavvon is slow on responding, and ive heard that some people don't even get a response period..

that's one of the reasons why i decided to buy those p4's from eservers instead of going directly to hostmania..

well its not like the servers are going up at eservers datacenter so the people arent going to be much help as they have to get the info from chavvon/transoptic

And what about the web site? Are they still actively selling? Or are they shutting down?

yes, i know they are not going in the eservers data center

they are going in the same dc as the hostmania servers
im just saying

i felt more comfortable ordering from eservers than hostmania
even though it was still the same stuff

i bet you any money eservers gets the latest info as to whats going on

so if something goes wrong, ill be eservers will know before ANY of us will know, even if they are just reselling space

Besides, sometimes it REALLY helps when the host actually talks to you

it makes me feel better when eservers is honest with me, and responds to me the same day / within a few hours.

i can constantly email eservers, asking about whats going on with the servers, and they will email me back WITH answers, within a few hours. i really don't know how to explain it, but im just trying to say that it really helps when the host communicates with you

instead of just not answering emails (like abu mami is experiencing)

i would be panic if say a week went by, i didnt get my server, and my emails were left UNANSWERED
i would be scared that i just lost $150 x 2

some may say "Oh no big deal, just do a charge back"

but what if i didnt pay with my credit card? what if i used my paypal funds?

so its not always as easy as people make it out to be

with eservers i dont feel that
and i feel confident that eservers will deliver my two servers on time or atleast a few days after the delivery date

they are a very good company with a good reputation.

Yes I do know what is going on. Chavvon said they're having problems with there Registar they ****ed there domain up or something and they had to do some work or something.

I dont see what having a messed up domain name has to do with them not being able to setup servers.

Setup the servers - install the os - give it an ip - give it to the customers its easy as that

and why did they register hostmaniadns.net to use as nameservers for hostmania.net? Its just a waste of money...

Im also not getting why there domain doesnt work when ns1.hostmaniadns.net and the other nameserver (listed at the top of the whois) ns1.servetel.com both have zone files for hostmania.net so it should work just fine.

I not sure how good this company will be if they cant even register a domain name/keep it registered.

I TOTALLY AGREE!

it is very simple

Did you buy your server directly from hostmania, or eservers

I am getting mine from eservers

Eservers says i should get my first server on tues

RE : Server Setup update!

We are currently having some registrar problems where our main backend domain’s name-servers are pointing to Verisign's DNS. We are working urgently to get this resolved because our OSS and Provisioning System will not function without it.

Just to set expectations; plan on your server being online Tuesday morning.
We are working hard to get it resolved this weekend, but half of the matter is currently out of our hands.

We sincerely apologise about the delays and your billing date for server(s) will not begin until the servers are setup and you have access.

hell, i hope i get something on tuesday ... been waiting since the 31'st.

clocker, i agree w/ you. an issue isn't as much of a big deal if it has been communicated to you. if nothing is said though, you're left wondering whether you're being scammed or something. chavvon answered all my questions when i called, but i really feel as if he should have emailed out customers who signed up during this mess.

I had almost decided on one host and I saw this thread so I thought I'd check out Hostmania before plunking down my cash. Not getting a response isn't exactly impressing me. I understand that they're having troubles, but still...
