View Full Version : domain name monitoring script
alldig 08-10-2002, 06:58 PM I basically need a programmer to develop a domain name monitoring script (checks domain name(s) for availability and tries to register them). I have limited knowledge of programming, scripting, etc... It just has to do the job...doesn't have to be fancy or cute. It can be dos based, web based, or just a program...whatever works on a windows OS and takes you the least time to program/script. Please email me for details: alldig@yahoo.com ... Note that I am paying for this job.

DoobyWho 08-10-2002, 07:01 PM Good luck :)
alldig 08-10-2002, 07:01 PM Thanks Dooby...anyone who thinks they can take this project on please reply.
DoobyWho 08-10-2002, 07:02 PM I can do it. But it would be pricey.
alldig 08-10-2002, 07:03 PM What's your definition of pricey? $50, $100, $500, $1000 ?
phpcoder 08-10-2002, 07:20 PM Haven't alot of registar's tried to stop that buy requiring you to input a set of numbers/letters on the signup script that is randomly generated on an image?
DoobyWho 08-10-2002, 07:26 PM I'd probably charge $500 as i don't have much time so i'd have to put aside a couple projects to put the little script together.
DoobyWho 08-10-2002, 07:26 PM phpcoder - I havn't noticed any registrar's doing that, but i've seen it other places.
alldig 08-10-2002, 07:40 PM PHPcoder...not many registrars have that as a security feature...I have accounts with about 10-20 registrars. Most of these registrars run off cgi or php. Dooby...the price is a little steep for me.
DoobyWho 08-10-2002, 07:50 PM I told you it would be ;)
alldig 08-10-2002, 08:01 PM :bawling: it's ok...hopefully there are some other responses in my price range
Acroplex 08-10-2002, 08:24 PM I can code the lookup part for $250. It will work with Perl-based Unix accounts. It won't register domains, but will generate result files. You need to have access to shell account and the server must allow whois.
alldig 08-10-2002, 08:26 PM I already have a "lookup" (whois) script...I just need to combine it with the functionality of registering the domain name(s) when it becomes available.
Acroplex 08-10-2002, 08:31 PM It's not a whois script.
Mine actually runs in the background as a cron job and monitors a list of domains, alerting you via email when they become available.
To do what you are asking - register a domain - you need to specify which Registrar's API will be used.
DoobyWho 08-10-2002, 08:31 PM timechange -: your only allowed one link in your sig ;-)
Hehe. sorry. i've just decided to give you, my pal, a hard time today :)
alldig 08-10-2002, 08:32 PM timechange...i need it to register domains automatically when they become available...your script doesn't cut it.

It does half the job, that's why you only pay $250 :D
Seriously, if you are not familiar with your Registrar's API you won't do much more than this.

Only 1 works today LOL, guess which one.
alldig 08-10-2002, 08:42 PM no thanks...anyone that can actually complete the job as stated please reply
kcdworks 08-10-2002, 08:49 PM alldig, do you have an enom reseller account, or would you be picking one up? Our programmers recieved a quote request from you and are telling me that this can be done pretty simply and would not be all that expensive, if you want it integrated with the API of a company like enom.
It looks like you want this for multiple registrars ... why not stick with one and make it easy?
Answer these questions, and I'll PM our quote to you. :)
alldig 08-10-2002, 08:52 PM Yes..I have an enom masters reseller account with $6.95 pricing....the reason I wanted it to work with multiple registrars is because sometimes a registrar can be down or a registrar can change it's procedures. I rather have my options open and have the ability to change the specified registrar.
kcdworks 08-10-2002, 08:57 PM Okay, what registrars would want this to work with? We can integrate the APIs of several, if they are available, though that will drive the price up a bit over one registrar, obviously.
Off topic, what do you charge as set-up fees for sub-reseller accounts at the $6.95 level? :D
Acroplex 08-10-2002, 08:58 PM Good luck, anyone charging less than that must be cash starved :D
alldig 08-10-2002, 09:00 PM kcdworks...can we talk in private rather than on a public forum...my contact info is listed below.

kcdworks 08-10-2002, 09:00 PM No, we're not cash starved. We're offering very low prices because we are building a customer base. Being relatively new at this type of service, it's important to become established. :)
Acroplex 08-10-2002, 09:05 PM Yawn.
PHP/Perl Coding: $5 /hour
Web design templates: $25
Posting at WHT and being ridiculed: PRICELESS

WOOOOOAHHHH .... I never said we were morons .... who charges $5/hr for coding?!?! My coders are fast ... we charge by the job, not the hour. :)
timechange, you need a new hobby. :stickout
Acroplex 08-10-2002, 09:13 PM :D My hobbies are expensive.

DoobyWho 08-11-2002, 11:59 AM Timechange, alot of people on this board do work extremely cheap.
webDivisor 08-11-2002, 04:47 PM Try getting a program that will do that for you at www.download.com I have used a program like that, that checks availability daily, and notifies you as soon as a domain is about to expire or is expired...
alldig 08-11-2002, 05:03 PM webdivisor...i don't need a program that notifies me...by the time i try to register the domain manually it will already be taken. I need an automated script.

Let them eat cake.
welldrafted 08-12-2002, 06:51 AM Hi,
We could automate this for you, by altering certain scripts, before i can tell you how difficult, how much and how long this will take, i need to know what registrar you will want to register the domain with. (or multiple registrars).
We will be cost effective, and guarantee your satisafaction.

Saeven 08-15-2002, 10:50 AM We have a script that pretty much does the whole lookup and collects payment for you. We've got authorize.net, paypal, and moneris as payment portals. We're going to plug into openSRS and enom in the next release.

I need something like this as well, and will be quite satisfied with just enom integration. Integration with other registrars not vital, but willing to pay if and when these become available.
Please PM details - cost, language (php or perl), and support (bug fixes, upgrades). Thanks!
