View Full Version : Cheap SSL certificates?
ivytony 01-12-2008, 09:12 PM I have a business startup (online) that I want to add an SSL certificate on the front page. I saw namecheap.com offers SSL certificates that are in my budget. http://www.namecheap.com/learn/other-services/ssl-certificates.asp
I am wondering where else I can find an even better one (price/quality)?
Personally, I'd go with GeoTrust which is more widely recognized than RapidSSL (right?).
Thanks!!
Vinayak_Sharma 01-12-2008, 09:44 PM Try http://www.positivessl.com they have them for $9
sliqua 01-12-2008, 11:07 PM RapidSSL is literally the same certificate as the GeoTrust ones, it just doesn't come with "the brand name" or whatever you want to call it. Namecheap probably has the best prices around for RapidSSL certs.
SweetAs 01-13-2008, 03:02 AM Innohosting sells RapidSSL for $13.99/year http://www.innohosting.com/geotrust.html I think its pretty cheap
ivytony 01-13-2008, 03:03 AM well, RapidSSL at namecheap is even cheaper. I've bought one SSL from positiveSSL for $9/year. Thank you all!

It will be good for the community if you can share your experience with positiveSSL.
Points like
Purchasing was smooth, simple or complicated,
Did they replied promptly, were there answers clear & helpful,
Whatever good/bad you can think of telling to the community.

omega36 01-19-2008, 12:02 AM I've have a PostiveSSL cert installed, process was quick and painless :)
You can get a 90 day free SSL from Comodo. http://www.instantssl.com/ssl-certificate-products/free-ssl-certificate.html
Brown 01-19-2008, 07:07 AM I've purchased a few Namecheap Rapidssl certs for some of my sites and they are easy to install and I've encountered no problems so far. So for those who want to get a SSL cert from Namecheap, you can go ahead and do so.
maritimesweb 01-19-2008, 10:38 PM I ordered one of those positivessl certificates a few months ago for shopping cart design. I was a bit dubious with the price, but to be honest the service has been great. No regrets with it.
wakymaky 02-17-2008, 05:58 PM install SSL is also very good.
redbug 02-21-2008, 03:01 PM For an e-commerce are cheap SSL recommended? I'm also starting an online e-commerce and can't afford $200 SSL for a year. Why are they so much?
Shannara 02-21-2008, 05:30 PM It's like a lot of things in life, some companies like over-pricing items to make money quickly. For example, network solutions' domain registration, Monster cables, etc.
redbug 02-21-2008, 09:43 PM Which would be the best buy and how does it work after I purchase the ssl?
jpatton 02-21-2008, 10:22 PM I would go with a RapidSSL it is a single root certificate that is well recognized by browsers. For the more expensive certificates you are paying for the name as well as a more detailed check before the certificates are issued.

redbug 02-22-2008, 03:54 AM Alright so when I purchase it do where is the SSL hosted? I'm new to ssl. I have no clue and I'd like one as soon as possible. Thank you all for the great advice and support! =)
WHC - Travis 02-22-2008, 03:51 PM My question is what vendor has SSL certificates that are beyond the typical 128-bit encryption.
