Hi,

I enabled SSL on my site and created a a self generated certificate.

My problem is that when I try to access the page (https) through explorer I get a message saying that it can't get a secure connection because the sender is unknown.

When i use netscape a get a warning that this isn't a authanticated connection, but it allows me to connect at 128bit!!!

According to the cobalt manual I should be able to get a secure connection with the site without an external certificate!! I am not ready to pay $300 to have a secure connection to my siteadmin!!!

Any tips?

thanks

Michael

I believe you can install the self-signed cert on your browser, click on the lock and see if it asks you something to that extent. Really not an expert (by far) on self-signed certs., so I may be completely wrong.

In my browser I have no options to click on!!
I am using Mac OS internet explorer 5.0.

In Netscape I am able to get a secure connection, but after going through a long proccedure.

Is anyone using self signed certificates? In the raq manual it states that this is the way I should be able to get a secure connection when adminestring the server. I find it weird that I must purchase a certificate to access my own server!!

thanks

Agaijn, really I don't know (so take this for what it is worth, which isn't all that much)...

You don't see a small lock in the bottom right hand corner of your browser when you connect securely to a server?

Surfer,

While you can do a self-signed certificate, none of the major browsers are going to recognize you as a certificate authority. Which means those warnings will continue to show.

Unless you are looking to get a wildcard certificate, you do not have to spend $300. Thawte (http://www.thawte.com/) has them for $129 and Equifax (http://www.equifaxsecure.com) has them for $99 a year.
