Hi there,

I am going to be contacting some companies of the same nature offering them a web design service.

Should I provide them with a price or let them contact me for a price? Also, should I give them specific details such as the possible site structure, or allow them to contact me for their own requirements?

Also, I am a freelance designer, but have a website giving a 'company' image. Should I write the letters from me as a freelance or as a company?

And finally, should I write 'Dear Sir or Madam' or 'Dear Manager' if it is a shop?

Many thanks!

First up write the letters from you as a freelancer, that way they know they will be getting a more personal service.

You could put in a vague price list for example "Basic websites from £xxx" that way they can contact you to ask what a basic site includes, and also allows the possability to upsell your services.

As for the greeting, find out the name of the person and write to them "Dear Mr. Smith" is so much more professional than "Dear Sir or Madam". It also shows that you are keen as you have found out the name of the manager.

Did they request that you send them these letters? If they didn't, then they are just as good as spam. But if they did, the personal approach is the best. It makes people feel more important.
