Hi, I have found a webhost who has all the features I need, but I am wondering if there is a way of finding out which other sites are hosted by them so that I can access those sights and maybe do some ping tests to see how available they are, and also see how busy the host is (how many sites they host).

I could simply ask them for a list but I`d rather not be given addresses of sites they recommend.

Any methods, ideas, tools, thanks.

Also what would be the method of finding out if they are a reseller, who they connect to, etc..

If you post the domain name it might help. Do a search on WHT (this site) enter the domain name without the .com.

You can also try http://www.samspade.org put in the domain name and click DO Stuff!. This can tell you a lot.

I am glad to see you are checking the hosts out before you signup. :)

Keep in mind tho that http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph does not give a true picture of up time.

Certianly better than nothing tho.

Yep I`m very cautious about choosing a host, sometimes there is so much choice it makes it harder :-)

This may not always be possible, but I think the best way to find out about a host is to talk to some of their customers. :)

Netcraft does not have them monitered so there is no uptime report for them. You could always ask them to provide you with their uptime graphs from their own monitor service.

Yeah but like he said where are you going to get that information, from the host?

I suggest doing a search here then do a google search on them and see if any customers have made negative remarks about them elsewhere that google has picked up.

Asking on a forum such as this one might help. Furthermore, if they have a support email or helpdesk, you could put in a test support request and see how fast they respond. I think typically hosts that respond to support tickets quickly, also take care of other parts of their business such as not overloading servers.
