Sorry if im posting this in the wrong section and feel free to move...

Question for all you out there that pay to have a toll free number.
I am checking a few places out and seem pretty resonable untill I start thinking well what if a guy from africa calls me 15 times just to mess around that would rack up a fairly large bill quickly wouldnt it?

Anyone get any issues like this comming up? I want to get the 1800 number but dont know if takign the chance of racking up a 300+ phone bill a month is worth it..

Any advice as to who to go with and your experiences with your number would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Evening:

Most of the providers allow you to limit inbound calls only from North America. Also, some even allow you to block individual numbers so if someone calls continuously, you can block them. Just about any VOIP provider can do this for you.

I can't speak for the virtual PBX companies. However, I would suggest you contact them and propose the very scenario to them and see what they have to say.

Toll-Free can be cheap with voip depending on the provider and your volume of calls.

A VOIP server can run you $25-800/month. Depending on VPS to Dedicated and the specs of the server.
I've used and still use Teliax for multiple voip services. They provide you with a free toll-free number. You can pay per minute(2cents) for unlimited slots/calls or 49/month for 4 simultaneous calls(IE: 3 inbound 1 out, or 2 inbound and 2 outbound).

Don't quote me on the prices but its should be close.

If you need any help just PM me.

Hopefully you will not run into people like that, but usually with a toll-free number in the United States, your phone number is displayed on the receiver's end. So you at least have a phone number to go one.

Some providers will also provide you with a name and address of the caller. And you can block certain numbers as well from calling you - from a complete area code, down to a certain number. A few different providers out there are Kall8, Freedom Voice, and RingCentral.

we use www.phonepeople.com and they're pretty nice. Its very entry-level though. I have a feeling you wont get many calls though. I've yet to get a call from a customer or even a possible customer, and its mostly used for other business contacts to call me.

Calls are redirected elsewhere though, so I have it set up so that my extension goes directly to my cell phone. Before answering, it tells you who's calling and from what number.
