View Full Version : Over 200 gb disk space
95 Degrees 01-07-2008, 01:14 PM I have a client who is requesting minimum of 200 GB disk space. I cannot offer this on the current reseller package I use. I searched and there seems to be some companies offering this whether as reseller plan or individual shared packages but none of whom I recognize nor see many posts here for.
Anyone know of or can recommend any established (not new) companies offering this type of disk space? What is the avergage industry price-range for plans with this amount of space?
They also send out over 1000 newsletters every month to their past opt-in guests.
Is this still a situation qualifying for shared plans? At what point should the client go into dedicated or semi?
bemas 01-07-2008, 01:31 PM they need to use 200GB space, that is the point they should get a dedicated box, 1000 mails everymonth is not a big issue for a reseller or vps
rangehosts 01-07-2008, 01:31 PM Well, just think if this customer is worth the hassle before you rush into anything. If you go and buy it and they don't pay, you're screwed.
040Hosting 01-07-2008, 02:52 PM This customer is asking for a dedicated server (or maybe a semi-dedicated) i dont think you will find many hosts with a 200gb package offer, where you are really allowed to use the 200gb.
95 Degrees 01-07-2008, 03:27 PM I agree 040, assuming you mean the overselling.
But I do see a few hosts such as bluehost, hostican, hostmonster, startlogic and ixwebhosting offering plans with large diskspace. All overselling?
Has anyone had any experience with any of these.
HostThree 01-07-2008, 04:52 PM They offer you 200GB, sometimes more. However they don't really mean it, they assume you wont use it.
I would find out exactly why the customer requires 200GB because it's a lot, if not you may want to perhaps you could get an affiliate account with host gator and refer him to them, that why you could get some money from it.
xeonfan 01-07-2008, 05:06 PM most of customers would ask for such a plan when they actually want to leave and have already seen advertisements from those big big hosts.
I've seen people making such a requirement an issue and then leaving you cause you wont/cant resell to those limits.
hosting providers like bluehost, hostgator may let you use that much space if you stick to their TOS.
they don't care if any one is actually using it to max or not, they would just throw in additional 1TB drive to server to let customer use the space to that extent, all they would watch is that you don't break the hosting TOS.

exactly... its not about the customer but only about the bucks.. can't blame them, we all need to eat, but its not my way of doing business. My loss :)

If they're actually going to use 20Gb of space, then you really should be talking to them about a decent dedicated server.
There's no point looking at the "unlimited" reseller accounts - as soon as you get to 10% of your clients requirement you'll get kicked off for some "reason" ...
95 Degrees 01-07-2008, 05:16 PM True xeonfan. I found that a couple times before. However, outside of standard support requests, I often throw in a lot of time to help my design clients, if they are hosting with me, no time charged or any maintenance fees if they need it. Many are not technical in any way. When they see some of the features offered out there cheaper, they suddenly want so much more space etc than they can ever use - plus they are on their own. Oftentimes I find they come back after finding that not everyone offers personal service nor even standard service.

And hopefully more and more customers will realize this. Keep up the good work!
xeonfan 01-07-2008, 05:44 PM in this wide, wild, vast world of hosting.
Service is the only thing, that can make a customer stay and pay.
pagerankzoom 01-08-2008, 12:37 AM WebHostingBuzz.com has a 200GB plan @ somthing around 59$ month.
But some disk usage limitations on there tos.
I recommend you to go with Dedicated server.
Asher S 01-08-2008, 01:38 AM A plan with 200GB (on a reseller account) would cost at least upwards of $70 if you want a proper company, which is not new, not oversold like crazy. Better off getting a dedicated server for that price.
ldcdc 01-08-2008, 02:09 AM 200GB of space (if it is an actual, real need) -> dedicated server.
That's the only way, unless you're willing to risk your reputation.
Irving 01-08-2008, 11:41 PM Yeah, its almost impossible to get 200 GB Space. Now in day, the webhost companies oversell a lot.Lately a lot of unlimited space and bandwidth plans are in a lot of hostings.
