View Full Version : Eryxma - too good to be true?
bigmac 08-09-2002, 10:33 PM These guys are really cheap and claim to host 3000+ web sites. Does anyone know much about them?
http://www.eryxma.com/
Your help would be much appreciated.
bluerain 08-09-2002, 11:26 PM They're okay as long as you don't try to run anything even vaguely resource-intensive.
I was part of a collective site there, and we were running ikonboard for a while. They rather rudely informed us that we needed to switch to the mysql based one, so we did. Then, that wasn't good enough for them either--they said it had to be a php/mysql board, not a cgi/mysql.
All of this wouldn't have been a problem, since I know there are many hosting companies out there with the same policy. It's just that they didn't have anything about it before we signed up, so we had no idea it would be a problem, and then they were very rude about it to boot.
Gem Hexen 08-10-2002, 01:39 AM It isn't so uncommon for a host to disallow CGI forums. They really negatively inpact the server resources.

bluerain 08-10-2002, 12:29 PM Like I said, it wouldn't have been a problem if we'd known about it before hand, like if it had been mentioned in their TOS like it is for a lot of hosts. It was just that combined with their rudeness about the situation that turned me off from them.
Phoenix2k 08-10-2002, 12:50 PM That's true customer service does help. Why they wouldn't put a noticeable restriction like that in their TOS is beyond my understanding.
It is important for companies to conserve resources.
when i get big files (bigger than 4mb) from eryxma server, it gets interrupted, i don't know why. does anyone experience that on other host?

*sigh*
Another duplicate post of 1 problem.
But here I quote myself.
Just to comment on jtan problem here on what happened.
Exim had a problem sending e-mail as the servers load itself was high because of another users mySQL database. In order to load this person's homepage it had to go through 60,000 queries just to get the info they needed. And this of coarse stressed the server, and caused high loads, which after a high load exim does stop/fail. This issue took about 4-5 hours to fix as we had to recode the user's php code, and fix her tables as there were many mistakes on it, once these 2 things were fixed, everything went back to normal.
Thank you, and have a great day!
Let me know if you have any other problems.

just for everyone's info, everything is fine now with eryxma. glad to see eryxma back to normal. no more interruption on big file transfer.
It's strange,
but some questions are asked on the form on Eryxma,
and no-one answers it there.
Or just some replies without knowing the exact answer....
HostInspect 12-11-2002, 07:06 PM What form?

Andrew 12-11-2002, 07:54 PM Umm...are you Shiekron on the eryxma forums?
This has been gnawing away at me for some time, hope you can ease the gnaw...
are you Shang? Source of the longest (non-movie-game) thread at WHT?
I'm not accusing you, it's just that it was mentioned before and nobody answered it...
HostInspect 12-11-2002, 08:23 PM I am Brandon DeHart I write reviews for Nintendo, and active author for Nintendorks, which is currently moving to Rip EI.
I met Joe in #Studio64 chat room a long time back, and we met at E3 every year. I always called him Shiekron, and Robert too. I never heard of the name "Shang" around here. Robert from OdiSee Corporation hired me to work for Eryxma as a supervisor a while back in its starting stages, Shiekron wasn't part of the staff at the time. Now I met Shiekron, talk to him all the time, and still do, but only in "extreme" cases.
I can't say much on the other topic as I have read it, and not much I could say. I did search our tickets/e-mail history for such things, but I couldn't find anything.
But you can speak to him, AIM: Shiekron and he is starting his site at shiekron.net , and he is our most active support forum member, is all I know.
But again, he is just a support staff member out of 27. But if you wish to speak to someone regarding an Eryxma staff member just contact Robert at r.hinojosa@odisee.net .
