How much bandwidth does the typical small business website actually use?

I am not talking about e-commerce sites, just the average professional consultant (ie. lawyer, doctor etc.) working with local clients.

I would guess it would be about 2GB/month.

Thanks.

You are pretty much right. 2GB or less :)

I have seen even less than that.

I have a 'hometown' review site that I would consider to be busy, however, it only uses about 2-3GB of BW per month

Doctor or lawyer, maybe 500 mb a month.

For the lighter users, any account with at least 5GB monthly bandwidth is more than enough.

Quite true... A friend of mine runs a very very active forum site and seems to only use 2GB or less of traffic every month...

Some of my customers don't even break the 500MB per month mark when it comes to BW.

I think there is often a misconception when it comes to the amount of BW someone thinks they use every month.

500MB to 1GB usually. It can be higher if they use a lot the email that comes with the account, or offer files for downloading. But in anycase it should be less than 5GB a month.

This is part of the reason I wonder why people are like "I can get 120000gigs bandwidth for $15/month as apposed to your 10gigs bandwidth for $10...

Are you going to use 10gigs much less 120000 gigs?

In my personal experience even the sites of my busiest clients have never exceeded 5gigs, and are usually between 1~3gigs.
