View Full Version : What is up with GoDaddy ????
sitekeeper 08-09-2002, 06:30 PM I have been trying to move domains to GoDadddy for a month now; I never get the email asking me as owner to approve the move. I have contacted them several times but I get the same reply:
In order for a transfer to go through, Go Daddy must get the permission of the administrative contact for the domain. At present we have not received a response from the admin confirming the transfer. Until we receive this approval we cannot proceed. I have sent a reminder just in case the first was lost. Let us know if it does not arrive.
I have checked all of the info for the domains and they have the right email & other info. I sent another support request to GoDaddy 3 days ago and I get this reply.
Thank you for your email to Godaddy Software. We are currently waiting on a reply on an email we recently sent you, requesting your approval to transfer the domain name. We will go ahead and re-send this email, in case you may have not received it. This email is being sent to your administrative contact email address of "The-same-email.com". Thank you. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with. Visit our web forum for information that may answer some of your questions at:
So this email tells me they have the right email on file and it is the same email I am receiving this message at. So can anyone tell me what the problem might be?
cyberdao 08-09-2002, 06:45 PM Seems, Godaddy has problems with their software / database.
I moved domains away from them which also requires the approval from the administrative contact.
I checked my account, everything was set up correctly, but I never got the email, tried for 5 weeks. I complained at the BBB, then they transferred the domains without the approval.
In one ticket they admitted having problems.
Why don't you try Namecheap? Great support over there!
RackFive 08-09-2002, 06:55 PM i transferred 1 domain to godaddy and all is ok

Which registrar are you moving AWAY from?
lbeachmike 08-10-2002, 12:43 AM GoDaddy is a mess - just look at how many BBB complaints they have filed against them. I think they're going for a record.
SiteTutor 08-10-2002, 01:56 AM i've been real pleased with GoDaddy..
I had the same problem with godaddy. I don't think their software has problems sending the e-mails... all the other promotional e-mail arrive to us. So, they just don't want to loose you... and your money... :D

Any links to that?
sitekeeper 08-10-2002, 06:25 AM UPDATE:
Now they tell me they did a whois and the email is misspelled, it is missing a e in sitekeeper.
From GoDaddy:
I have discovered what the problem is.
The email we are sending the message to is "sitekeper1@xxxxxl.com" not "sitekeeper1@xxxxx.com" (Not the extra e in keeper)
You have registered the domain name with "sitekeper1@xxxxx.com"
If you do a WHOIS lookup on the domain yourself, you will see the email address of "sitekeper1@xxxxx.com"
I have checked it doing a Whois and at Dotster, everything is correct. This was the first thing I did almost 4-weeks ago, everything was correct and I even included the Whois in our correspondences. There support site has all of the messages back and forth, the information is there for them to see too. I know of no way for a whois that I do and one they do to be different. I have to attribute this to problems they are having..
They state on their site Transfer to Go Daddy risk-FREE! At this time the link doesn’t work 500 - Internal server error (05:25 CT) It stated that if a transfer does not go through they would refund your money. Well apparently this is BS because I have asked and NO LUCK! I just left the domain at Dotster because it is too late to transfer it without paying again.
SpocksBrain 08-10-2002, 09:38 AM Is this one of the risks of getting a $7.95 domain? How much is Godaddy making per domain? How much support & manual intervention can these guys give at these low prices?
I see Godaddy's "Risk-Free $7.95 Transfers!" come-on but I checked the Godaddy FAQ and don't see how to get a refund on attempted domain name registrations or transfers.
"Domain Names: To cancel a domain name, go to the Manage Your Account portion of the Domain Name site. Click the cancel domain name registration link, and go through the steps. This process cannot be undone. There are absolutely no refunds."

Yeah - you've been real pleased because you haven't yet run into a problem. When you have one, you'll not be so pleased that they can't or won't resolve it. I'll never understand this way of thinking, since I've seen so many people tell me this that they're so happy with such and such company, and they ignore the fact that everybody else is having issues with them - then a month later, they're miserable, because now they had one of the issues that everybody else has had and they're frustrated about not listening to the warnings everywhere.
GoDaddy charges extra for all sorts of stuff that others do not - that in and of itself is always a warning sign.
I'll have to find the article about the BBB complaints.
mrk
Acroplex 08-10-2002, 04:15 PM Actually GoDaddy recently introduced free URL forwarding, that was the last barrier that made it a better deal than Star*gate.
SiteTutor 08-10-2002, 05:07 PM and they now offer 'free' ownership transfer/push of names.
goodluck sitekeeper
MSSTATEBDFAN 08-10-2002, 07:39 PM Plus you can now finally change the Registrant information! Which they use to not allow you to change the name of the owner and/or company.
They also added a lock feature I believe.
Acroplex 08-10-2002, 09:29 PM Of course, pressure and lots of accounts moving out to enom. I personally dropped them and moved out to Starg*ate and enom.
cyberdao 08-11-2002, 08:41 AM Namecheap offers similar prices and much better support than Godaddy.
I have again trouble transferring domains away from Godaddy.
... but contacting the BBB really seems to help!
Acronym BOY 08-11-2002, 08:44 AM I havent had a problem at all, only 13 or so domains, but no issues.
*shrugs*
cyberdao 08-11-2002, 09:04 AM I currently have 200 client domains with them and try to get them all away.
I also don't like the fact that they send that much spam mail, also to my clients.
Namecheap does not send any mail to your clients at all.
