I know this thread has been opened several hundred times. But I have been doing my own research... And have searched the threads and have yet to find any conclusive information.

I know phpcoin is the most popular system. But it is rather cumbersome. Is there a better, free system?

My other question concerns "hackability" of freeware versions.

You can look at also www.solid-state.org But there are not many free solutions. And commercial softwares have a lot of features and update often and owner of them generally a company. So they are more reliable and useful.
