In the last year since I have got my business pretty well established I am going to try and support some of the open source software vendors I use. I think people take free software for granted, I know I have, and they don't think about the work and time involved in making these things. I know that a lot of our business and profits would not be possible without it.

So I figured I would make a post to get an ideal of how the average webhostng company supports their open source software vendors. I'm sure many do not at all but the ones that do, considering your net income, use of software, etc how much do you usually donate to open source software?

As of now I picked 2 to start the year off with - Configserver and Centos. And then rotate to something else like grsecurity, php, etc;

Any feedback would be appreciated.

We don't need anything now but planning to offer mirror downloading sites for China in the future.

We have contributed to grsec, fireFTP and probably some others that I'm forgetting.

At the very least, we do a translation and documentation project. We've done that on GPSMan and Mapserver to local user.

I have always supported the open source software. I would rather deal with it then have the customers upset that we won't do anything about it.

Didnt quite catch what ya meant there John.

Thanks for everyone's input, I figured that surely some web hosts factor in open source support/donations as part of their budget. I guess kind of like tithing, But no set or recommended percentage on this. I would suppose that whatever one feels comfortable with.
