Hello,

I've been researching some payment processors recently for a project I am working on.

The nature of the business means that charge backs are likely so in order to eliminate the risk I want to reduce charge backs to zero.

My understanding is that you cannot make a charge back on a Debit Card in the UK.

Is this true? If so are there any merchants who will allow me to take Debit Cards issued from UK banks?

Thanks

Ash

You can make chargebacks on debit cards. If you receive too many chargebacks, it is possible the merchant will cease to provide you service.

Have a look at NoChex.co.uk

Yeah it seems that Debit cards aren't an option.

Thanks.

Not sure where you looked but they do accept debit cards. I used them many years ago for this sole purpose and no sign up is required to make payments.

I don't mean Nochex, I was talking about the whole business plan.

Sorry for not being specific.

I've been using various online payment methods and never had a chargeback yet (except on personal numpty eBay sales)
As far as I can work out then payment on a goods or service (non-ebay) seems to be the best method, as the card holder has less chance of forcing through the charge back

After being scammed on a personal eBay sale, I now send all these by Royal Mail RECORDED or SPECIAL delivery
That way I can prove the goods were paid for AND received at the other end

You have to be careful even if you can prove the goods were sent to the customer you can still lose on a chargeback case especially if your talking about paypal. If the transaction is fraudulent then there is really not much you can do.

The best way to reduce charge backs is to vet each and every order, using things like automated callback systems. If your sending tangible goods there is also a few other precautions you should take. One of the businesses i work with use an online electoral roll check to verify "high risk orders"

If you have a look @ www.192.com you can see if someone is registered to vote at a particular address (Check yourself and you will see what i mean)

You should also check with your merchant account provider for there fraud prevention systems. My provider www.streamline.com are very good and since i stopped using paypal back in August I've not had many problems with fraud.

Whilst were taking about debit cards its good to encourage your customers to use them as the processing fees are considerably less (usually just a flat fee of like 0.22p)

Regards.
