Ive been a customer for about 4 months or so now and I've been using 300-500GB of transfer each month... I dont know when I exceed since I emailed a question to them couple months ago and they replied on their msg board that we won't overcharge unless your exceeding over 200 gigabytes. They told me that their "overlimit" script doesnt work....

However, this month they told me to pay 263 dollars extra cause I exceeded 175 gigabytes. I didn't recieve any warnings- email or neither a phone call. I asked them that it was unfair and they just replied:

"For the informationt that I have it show that you use 174.90 of over bandwith and your balance is $174.90 please let us know how did you want to pay for this because if we don't received payment by Friday the total amount is going to be $262.35."

im quitting them :(

There's also threads about RackShack using incorrect numbers to charge bandwidth -- one guy shut his server down, and yet racked up over 50 more gig of transfer... hmmm...

Perhaps RackShack's bandwidth monitor only registeres outgoing traffic, but they charge on both in and out? Weird. I think they would be more responsible about charging though -- understandable to charge, but not if promised bandwidth monitoring tools aren't working, available, or are just flat out wrong.

What kind of server do you have with them, and how much bw did it come with? just 200gb, or?? Was it something they have been offering within the last few months, or was it something way back then?

I have 6 rackshack servers, all of them come with 400gb standard, except one, that was the p4 with 600gb

ive never really exceeded, but as far as i know, i have a right to use all 400gb?? if i am wrong, somebody correct me.

Same here, they said we used 515GB on one server so we were charged 115$.

I told them I believed the monitor was wrong. I mean right now, 9 days into the month, the bandwidth monitor says we've used 3.09% of the bandwidth.

There have been absolutely NO site changes. You wonder how our bandwidth usage could have suddenly dropped by 480GB of bandwidth from last month to this month's projected usage (based on 1/3 of the month using 3.09% bandwidth)

One more thing that proves the bw meter wrong, in our PLESK usage the total ads up to 50GB, which is 12.5% and not 3.

That is one reason why we are cancelling that particular server with them.

well, sorry to hear your story.
Rackshack indeed provide unmanaged service, including software and hardware. you need to depend on luck that only god can give you.

I guess someone will come up and yell again

"hey , it is only 99USD, what are you asking for..."

When I had hardware problems with them, they did not show their possitive attitude to the problems.
It is like when you choose cheap airlines and you got some evidences about airplanes and ask for helps...airlines said

"hey sir, this is only 99usd ticket, what are you asking for, I will swap airplan if it crashes....."

This is the sentence rackshack will use on you when you concern hardware problems with evidences...

when airplanes crashes, you and your customers are dead on the planes the only thing they will do is swap a airplane...

There are some other companies that do provide price as cheap as rackshack...

good luck indeed

note: easyjet www.easyjet.co.uk is the good example.I sometimes got 30 pounds for return ticket to Paris from london.
they never say " I will swap the airplane if it crashes.." ^^

I think the only problem here is that RS does not inform people when they exeed. IMHO that is not a sign of good business. Unmanaged servers or not, one gets the feeling that they let people exceed in order to make extra money.

I don't say that they DO this, and even on purpose. What I am saying is that it LOOKS like it. Also, unmanaged or not, it is part of the "good tone" and de facto industry manner to inform exeeding people. I do it and all others I know (90% of all DCs here on WHT) do it too.

A client who is billed more out of the blue only makes a mad and leaving client. On the long run it is economically wrong and hurts the business in both money and reputation.

:D You're 100% right. $230,000 (Rolls Royce Silver Seraph) is a bit expensive for a large coke and fries :D

PeterJUn21 , I'm sorry to hear this :( Good luck with finding a new host.

agree with Matlok, rackshack is good for personal use and practice.

Do not use it to run a hosting company, you will lose everything.

So did you pay them the extra $115 or what did you do?

this stuff kinda makes me wonder whats going to happen to me
ive never gone over 150gb on any of my rackshack servers
so i hope i dont get charged for something i didnt use =/

Keep MRTG images for monthly use, if they say you've gone over, do the math, and see if its even possible according to the montly maxs, etc...

pretty accurate if you ask me.
if they even try to tell me ive transferred something i haven't, im throwing bandmin logs at them =/

i was just saying, id be pissed off if they accused me of something i didnt even do ;/

There is no way we are paying for what we didn't use. As Ronny said (AcuNett) they are practically stealing money from us. They have no proof as they haven't even gotten their bandwidth monitors working right. Here is a direct quote from one of their techs I talked to a while ago...... "I will let you in a little secret, our bandwidth monitoring system doesn't even work."

So there you have it, theives they are. Rackshack will see not more business from us. EVER!

I'm angry too. What the hell are we supposed to do? I base my bandwidth on the members section. It clearly didn't go over 410GB and yet I was charged for ... 460GB?!

If Patrick is around reading this, how should we go about to resolve this issue? I don't feel I should have to pay a large overage fee when I have been actively been monitoring my bandwidth in the member's section!

Clocker, they can charge us the $115, I won't charge it back as it is not too big a deal. It's the fact that they even CHARGED us, when IMO we never used nearly that much.

A client who is billed more out of the blue only makes a mad and leaving client. On the long run it is economically wrong and hurts the business in both money and reputation.

That is how I feel right now, other than being billed wronly (IMO), but I don't have solid proof to back it up. Yes I have this month's graphs and bandwidth usages, to compare, but that isn't going to be any use.

Another interested thing, when I was notified I'd be billed 2 days ago, I went in to check the bandwidth graph. It said 3.09%, today it is STILL 3.09%. How is a customer to know when he is going over the limit if the bandwidth charts take so long to update if at all?

when i got my first rs server, i did notice that the bw monitor was screwed..

it would stay at like 0.00% for a week
then 3% a week later
i stopped relying on it really
