I was wondering what's the disadvantage if we set DNS wild card to an account?

Just curious since I just knew that free DNS management granitecanyon does not allow their user set it.

I can't really think of any disadvantages - other than that if you are using something other than IP based hosting; if people visit a wildcard address they may get an error message (or worse; somebody elses site).

Unless, of course, Apache is setup to handle wildcard dns. I believe this is done by adding this line to the VirtualHost:

Host *.domain.tld

You mean:

ServerAlias *.domain.tld

There ARE DISADVANTAGES!

People who hate you or you competitors may submit to search engine urls you DONT want to be indexed.

we-suck.yourcompany.com
scam.yourcompany.com

and others...

and search engines may index them and display to search engine users...

VERY BAD! VERY BAD!
