Hi,

What's your opinion on or experience with Valueweb? Either as a hosting customer, reseller or as an affiliate marketer of theirs?

I did a search, but most post were over a year old.

Thanks!

Louis

Chrisb, what was your experience with them?

Anyone tried them as an affiliate; i.e. sending folks to them to sign up as their customers for the affiliate fees one can earn sending traffic to them?

If so, how did it work out? Did they pay well and on time?

I realize host wouldn't do this, but some here who are not host might have.

Thanks for sharing,

Louis

Hi Louis,

I used ValueWeb a few years ago to host a domain. I did not have any problems with them. The Uptime was great, the servers fast, and tech replys to my questions were prompt and professional! Yes, they also DID mail the software cd's as promised!!

My first host was valueweb and I registered my domain using them. (I was the registrant and they were the other contacts, but they allowed me to change them). Since my CC didnt have enough, they called me, and sent an invoice and in the 2 weeks (I was in school at the time) I couldnt send it they kept my account active. Yes, I paid them.

Good servers, nice support, and there was actually someone on the other end of the phone when I called to canel (found a cheaper host but big mistake). They even gave me the option of allowing the account run the remainder of the month.

At the time I was with them, they were giving out IBM Toppage CD's to new accounts, but I had to call them after a month and a half to get it. After I called, I got it in the mail 2 days later. Now I gotta figure out how to replace my CD cause it got cracked during a move :(

Overall rating
speed: 9
support: 9
features: 5 (when I was hosted with them they had no php or mysql)

My apologies to you and ValueWeb. I got them mixed up with someone else.

Used them on and off for over 3 years. Good support. Fast servers. Never cared for the POP3/SMTP setup they have. But, overall it is a good service.

I know that they host the following sites:

www.kukluxklan.net
www.kkkk.net
www.k-k-k.com
www.kukluxklan.net

So you can ping those to see what the speed is like.

:erm:

I prefer an anti-hate site policy myself.

Most conscientious hosts have one.

IMHO, of course.

Don't judge us all by what you read on that site. I live in Huntsville, and it's one of the nicest places that I've lived. I've been here for almost 17 years now.

Hmmm...I guess my reviews aren't as nice as everyone else's ... but hey - they are better than openhsp. Whatever you do, don't use them.

As far as ValueWeb goes...there not bad...sometimes they don;t answer the phones, but its like that with most companies I suppose. At least they do have a Customer Service Staff - and that is reassuring. I have only been with them for a couple of weeks, but so far, so good. Just wish they would help me with some configuration issues I am experiencing with my WebSite.

At any rate...do research on all your top five hosts...Thats what I did - and whatever you do, DO NOT ANSWER SPAM EMAIL offering service that sounds to good to be true, cuz it is...believe me...I had decided to go with ValueWeb origionally, and then got this email from Openhsp...and I have been regretting that choice since I made it. I subsequently switched back to my first choice - ValueWeb - and have been pretty happy.

Good luck to you friend :D

Cheers Chaps!

BigJohn.

ValueWeb was okay when we initially began hosting our sites with them 2-3 years ago. Over the last several months I've been increasingly frustrated by the amount of downtime we experience. It's not that the sites are down for hours or days at a time. But it's a frequent thing. A few times a week on average. And who cares if it's five minutes or five days if it occurs when a potential client visits the site? It's possible that some of the problems could be related to traffic on ValueWeb's servers rather than server failure, but again – who cares when a potential client can't access your site? YOU look bad, not the host.

As I mentioned, we were okay with ValueWeb a few years ago. It's only been the last several months that we've experienced problems. Someone looking for hosting now should consider what current customers are saying about the company, as it says a lot about what they can expect when they sign up.

Of course this forum isn't necessarily an accurate representation of the average customer. Those motivated enough to post likely have stronger opinions (whether + or -) than your average Joe. But a lot of people throwing up red flags in the forum would make me take a closer look at the hosting company I was considering.
