A good place to start would be the advertising section...

A great place would be here. Just follow the rules. Go in the advertising section.

This looks better in the Running a Hosting Biz Forum. Moved.

Again have quick study on the market and provide a unique feature to your hosting that most of the hosts are lacking or provide a much active feature at a lower competitive price. ;)

Specialization helps, as does marketing to your local community. If you try to get in a price war with the Cheap Charleys out there, you're sure to lose.

First of all use your forum signature, like the poster above me has done.

I don't mean to be nasty or horrible, but I don't think it's a wise idea asking others for advertising ideas.

This forum is full of CEOs, Directors, Managers and staff who run hosting companies. Why would they give you an idea so you can steal their customers?

If you want to produce a marketing plan the best thing to do is sit down with your friends, your staff and your relatives and look at what market you are looking to take over. Once you have decided, you need to find out what the best ways are to communicate to this market.

For example, if you are aiming to sell shared hosting, where do the webmasters hang around? What do they look for in a hosting company and how can you be unique and different from your competitors?

The questions you are asking are far too brief because we all aim for different markets, we all have different budgets and we all have different resources available to us.

Why? To give something back to the community, for one thing.

Consider the amount of competition in this industry for a moment. It is staggering. The chance that you would actually lose a prospective client to someone you helped is very small IMHO.

We can all gain something by sharing ideas, and working in a friendly yet competitive market. That doesn't mean we give out operational secrets or spend an excessive amount of time helping one person, but we can certainly point others in the right direction without hurting ourselves.

Completely agree with you, UberHost. The forum is here for us all to exchange ideas, views, thoughts. Not simply knowledge but also inspiration. If you think that sometimes, you just need a starting point for a brainstorm or creative idea, this forum is one of the best places to start at.

Nexty could have simply asked for ideas on what types of servers he should use, or the types of control panels would work best... but instead, he simply asked about advertising.

It's an equally important part of every business, beyond staff or IT infrastructure or anything else. The marketing portion of any company is crucial to helping that business establish itself and gain brand awareness.

I don't see why sharing this information with Nexty could adversely affect anyone's business. Every company has its own USP and as such, its own niche on the market. If Nexty uses the exact same marketing pitch as Company XYZ, that doesn't mean he'll suddenly threaten to steal away Company XYZ's business.

If people here do not want to share information, that's fine. But I'd simply suggest that for those hosts who want to help out new players such as Nexty, there shouldn't be any harm in offering up that information just to be helpful.

Nexty, I'd be delighted to speak more with you about this. PM me if you want.

Cheers,

David

First question you need to ask yourself - WHY anybody needs MY hosting services while here is a billion of "cheap, reliable, affordable, professional, best" web hosting companies on today's market ? When you have an answer - you can start working on your marketing strategy.

I don't believe no one has said this: try the tutorials sections!

This thread topic is so old.

Find a niche and market the heck out of it. Don't forget to work on those customer referral incentives.

Follow the above advise I just gave and you too can make millions :)

As for why anyone would want to help out, well because the world still has nice people in it and we have to give a little to get back a lot.

Kiamori, what a nice reply. :) It's always great to meet people like you. There's plenty of business to go around in this world, and certainly no shortage for well-intentioned hosts such as yourself!

All the best,

David
