View Full Version : Looking for a script.
viGeek 08-08-2002, 07:51 PM I am looking for a script searchable directory script. Something in the lines of Dmoz. Such as.
Category - Pizza Shops.
Category - Internet.
I can add sites to the categories, and then users can either click and browe the categories, or search all of them for a keyword.
If you know of anything worth taking a look at. Please post a message with link etc...
Thanks,
Anthony
forumster 08-08-2002, 10:07 PM Check out HotScripts (http://hotscripts.com) . They rate the scripts so you can guage what others think about them

SiteTutor 08-08-2002, 11:51 PM Not quite sure if your lookN to develop your own db of sites within your s/engine or if your wanting something that already has content/sites?

GoodLuck!:)
chrisb 08-09-2002, 01:31 AM A custom script is usually best. I'll write it for $100 pre-paid (non-negotiable).
Bannaz 08-09-2002, 06:46 AM Yes hotscripts is probably the best place to find what you are looking for, but if you arn't familiar with coding yourself it may be best to have custom scripting. Check us out for a totally affordable quote: support@chewnet.com :)
DoobyWho 08-09-2002, 06:49 AM $100 isnt bad for that project.
Bannaz 08-09-2002, 06:54 AM Comparing to the outside world, $100 is not a price to complain about at all!
But WHT do seem to bring down these prices, for the better I don't know. :)
DoobyWho 08-09-2002, 06:59 AM Hate to say it , but WHT has always been very cheap. heh.
Bannaz 08-09-2002, 07:02 AM Well its a great place for those who are finding it difficult approaching work in the outside.. and its great for those who are short of a bit of cash.
DoobyWho 08-09-2002, 07:04 AM Ya it is.
chrisb 08-09-2002, 09:35 PM $300 is a fair price, but to sell something at WHT, you usually have to state a rock-bottom price. That's why I stated $100 and non-negotiable. I doubt if anyone here would pay a fair price of $300, let alone a cheap $100 price.
I have a feeling they want it for $10 or nothing at all. When people on WHT say they are willing to pay for something, it's simply not true most of the time. Quite often, they try to wear you out with emails, and still expect to get it for nothing in the end.
viGeek 08-10-2002, 01:37 AM ChrisB, I will be in touch with you soon, I see it being viable to have a custom script. It isnt really anything spectacular needed, just something that will work well, and not drain all resources. Thanks for the excellent price!
SiteTutor 08-10-2002, 01:51 AM we can write a custom script for you as well..
chrisb 08-10-2002, 02:14 AM Hi Anthony,
I will be happy to do it, but I want to warn you that it may take me some time (1-2 weeks? because I'll have to work on it off and on) so you may rather go with someone else this time. Unfortunately, I have had some pressing issues arise since I posted that which must take priority.
BTW, what you need is exactly one of the things I do best in perl. JFYI, I have written many search scripts, multiple search and replace scripts, and multiple directory scripts that find things in directory trees.
PS My comments about most people at WHT wanting something for nothing were not directed at you specifically.
