View Full Version : Non-US corporation needs US corporate bank account
My company is not located in the U.S. I do have a U.S. mailing address and an EIN number. I want to open a corporate business account at a U.S. bank. I contacted BOA and they told me I would have to be incorporated in a U.S. state in order to do so.
Does anyone know if it is possible without having to incorporate there? Is there any U.S. bank where my money would be welcome?
buyLicense 12-22-2007, 05:51 PM Are you looking for a simple account with Online Interface or you need some cards to withdraw monies too?
I can live without cards to withdraw money. Although it would be nice to have. What I do not want is an account where the name of the account is set up like this:
XYZ Company dba John Doe
Atarim 12-22-2007, 09:16 PM If you have a US EIN, doesn't that mean your company is registered somewhere in the US? If so, your company's address should be as registered. Where you, the owner, happen to live is another matter, I think.
64bithost 12-22-2007, 10:41 PM To get a bank account that says MYCOMPANY.com you need to either be Incorporated as a partnership or as a corporation. This needs to be done in the state you reside in. For non-us corporations you have to seek out the state of MAINE and ask the State Banking Authority what the rules are for compliance as a Partnership or a Corporation. This is fairly easy and all the rules are online.
A side note the rules are different from State to State. I had to register my company with the county I was in and then the state before I could get a credit card that said MYCOMPANY.com
Good luck

This is like saying that no foreign companies have U.S. bank accounts or that no U.S. companies have foreign bank accounts, which, of course, couldn't be further from the truth.
There are plenty of legitimate reasons why a foreign entity may need to draw and deposit funds on a U.S. account.
monkeywrencher 12-24-2007, 11:02 PM These posters are incorrect, what you need to obtain is called a certificate of authority. A certificate of authority is used by a foreign corporation (either out of state or country) to transact business in a particular state. To do this you will most likely need an attorney in either Nevada or Delaware (any state actually but these are the easiest) to prepare the paperwork, and act as your registered agent in the US.

Absolute rubbish! Its just a matter of satisfying YKYC (you know your customer) regulations.
You can basically fly to the US and open a bank account. They'll open one for you as long as they see you in person.
AmiroPay 12-26-2007, 09:16 AM incorporation in the US IS THE EASIEST THING TO DO!
try incparadise.com: a couple of hundred bucks and you will have your Corp. or LLC in Nevada in a couple of days.

:roll2: This is the most retarded statement I've ever heard. Obviously some people are so ignorant to the world around them.
Businesses have a wide variety of reasons to use a bank account in the US. Think about T-Mobile, they are a German company that setup in the US, what about Nokia, or other foreign publicly traded businesses.

Yes you can have a U.S. bank account with or without a biz in the U.S. If you open as a foreigner they will require a lot more paperwork and a W8BEN for tax reporting purposes. If you want to open a biz account then you'll need an EIN or ITIN to do it. It is not easy to get an EIN and then even if you do it is almost to the letter that you will need to be present at the bank to open. Notice I said ALMOST. It is possible to get around it sometimes. It is much easier to do this with a biz account than a personal one.
For the biz account you'll need your "certificate of incorporation" from your company (the best states for foreigners are Nevada or Delaware). You'll also need your EIN, and copy of passport, plus another ID. With this you can have a well known U.S. checking account, debit card, internet access and possibility of but not always guaranteed, a merchant account. However, with the biz account you can now use Paypal. :)
I can explain more if you pm me.
ntlntl 02-16-2008, 06:31 AM forming us company is not hard, but using it is another story.
It's a pain to file, pay tax if you dont know how to do. and even paying fine if you do it wrong >.<
