View Full Version : this guy's still at it.
akashik 03-04-2001, 02:05 PM I rememeber someone posting a thread about this guy (or one just like him), a few months ago.. It appears he's still at it. Read the email below and try to figure out what's wrong with that picture. :) Small suggestion to the new people here - don't set up accounts like this...
Greg Moore
Dear Webhosting Company,
I'm looking for a place to host my personal website. I would
like to set up just a subdomain account on your server. Please use any
information for the username and password, you choose, then email
it to me at this address. <<edited>>
I have had several hosting companies not deliver what they promised after I
paid.
Also, I have a form I want to process at my site and I'am new at cgi scripts,
so I need you to give me the exact URL needed to access my form script
in the cgi-bin from my browser.I need to know that there will be a folder called "CGI-BIN" and that it will be activated so my feedback form will run.
The account needs to meet the following criteria:
1) Hosted on UNIX or LINUX servers
2) Full access to the CGI-Bin
3) FTP access
4) At least 10 mg of space
Once I access the site I will immediately send you a money order. Please give
me your address so that I can send you payment.
Thanks so much for your help,
Dave
klisis 03-04-2001, 02:13 PM hehe, looks like it.
Duster 03-04-2001, 02:15 PM He probably heard that expression "there's a sucker born every minute" and is trying find if any of them got into the hosting business.
I'm mailing a few copies of this in the morning:
Dear Porsche Dealer,
I'm looking for a car for my personal use. I'd like to buy one from your dealership. Please use any information for my name and address that you choose, register and license the car and send the information to this email address: bozotic@nowhere.com
The car needs to meet the following criteria:
911 C4 Cabrio
6-speed manual
Carrera Aerokit
Black/Black
I have had several automobile dealerships not deliver what they promised after I paid. Please mail the keys to me and leave the car in your lot so that I can pick it up. Once I have access to the car, I will immediately send you a money order. Please give me your address so that I can send you payment.
Thanks so much for your help,
Jay
hmmm, some people just don't learn
akashik 03-05-2001, 01:41 AM 911 C4 Cabrio

Hmm.. sounds nice. Get one for me while you're at it. If they're out of those I'll take a Boxter. :)

KDAWebServices 03-05-2001, 10:10 AM JayC, if it works can you get me a GT3 911 in Lapis blue with black leather interior? Either that or a GT1.
I'll send you the money when you deliver :D
Thanks,
projo 03-05-2001, 11:20 AM I can understand this guy being cautious. He first went into the on-line banking business but was wiped out the first week. Someone emailed him a holdup note with a picture of a mask and a gun.

Either that or a GT1.Sorry, Karl, you're on your own: the GT3 isn't available in North America so I can't get that for you. And there's not a GT1 any more, is there? Maybe I can get you a GT2, if you insist on staying with that antiquated 2-wheel drive approach. :)
And you'll pay on delivery? You're really not learning from our friend Dave the Web Hosting Shopper.

I just received this modified version today from Nehemiah W Maxwell, maximilium@juno.com:
Dear Webhosting Company,
I'm looking for a place to host my website. If you can supply me with
the
following services that I have listed below then please send me the steps
I need to take in order to setup an account with you and also send me
your
mailing address.
My webmaster says that my account needs to meet the following criteria
for
my website and inquiry forms to work.
1) Hosted on UNIX or LINUX server
2) Full access a CGI-Bin
3) FTP access
4) At least 10 mg of space
5) Sub domain
When you setup my account, along with the regular setup info you will
send me,
please make sure that you tell me what is the URL needed to access my
html and
cgi files from my web browser.
Please do not accept my money and order unless you will committ to
providing
me exactly what I need as listed above.
Please give me your address so that I can send you payment. I have
stopped
giving hosting companies my credit card due to abuse and theft.
Thanks so much for your help,
PS Please let me know what your bandwidth limitations are.
Well if I had the cash, and it weren't for the fact the insurance would kill me, I'd buy it. And that I live more than a thousand miles away.

btw, you got that digital camera yet? Can we see some better pics of the car? :)
Greg Moore
Chicken 04-01-2001, 12:17 PM I could probably do that... :)
<<ADMIN NOTE: I'm gonna hafta start editing my own posts, heh>>
Also, just for general info... insurance on the car isn't any more than it was for my SAAB (though it was a turbo), and I think people think that the insurance for sports cars is far more than it really is. People always seem to think it is going to be more.
I hate insurance, who doesn't? You pay for something and HEAVENS!- if you ever actually *use* the service you are buying they slam or drop you. Go figure.
Matt Lightner 04-01-2001, 01:50 PM Ask the guy to fax you a photocopycopy of his drivers license and a major credit card first. You probably won't har back from him. :D

Matt

Thanks - Brian
