I am looking to move my dedicated server requirements to a new company and after spending quite a lot of time in these forums reading tons of messages, it seems that the current RAQ3 and RAQ4 deals offered by 4webspace and rackshack look perfect for my bandwidth/cost requirements.

After reading up on DNS, I have decided to use the hosting companies nameservers to reduce server load and increase security on my server.

I have no experience with these types of server and wonder how secure they are from outside attacks..?

if u keep up to date with the security realeases on the cobalt site u'll be pretty secure. No server is hack proof.

do you know if these two companies will give me a RAQ with the latest surity updates pre-installed, or will I have to upgrade the software myself as a priority before uploading any html files..?

4webspace just give you the basic config and id imagine rackshack do too. Updates are easy u just copy and paste the link into ur control panel and the system does the rest.

Technics... thanks for your help :)

Could you point me in the right direction for where the updates are located ?

I would guess its somewhere on the Coalt website, but where ?

Also, is there just one file to update, or should I be updating more ?

Sorry to be a pain, I just want to know what I am getting into here and a little research now, could go a long way :o

----

Patches are rolled out every other day but i always leave it for a month before loading the patch gives people time to find faults in them.

There are 18 updates on the RAQ4 page... do I have to install ALL of them, or just the last one.

(Actually what I am really asking is, are they all just updates of the same file on this page and does each new file on the page contain the previous fixes in them - I would hate to upload 18 files only to find that that last one would have done. If not, how many of the files on this page would I need to load ?)

you will need to install all of them. You maybe required to get patches from the archives page as well so that new patches will install. But dont install the patches the day they come out it may lead to a nightmare.
