Hello guys,

I was wondering if anyone had any experiencing setting up live videos feeds and if they had any suggestions.

The goal is to have a camera (and a small linux computer if needed) with internet to upload the video feed to a server that will rebroadcast the feed live.

Any tips on hardware and software side would be great!

There are plenty of IP Camara / Network Camera solutions that don't necessarily even need a computer to deliver video to the Internet. They have all the software built into them and simply need a LAN or wireless connection to the Internet.

See http://www.networkcamerareviews.com/ (http://www.networkcamerareviews.com/networkcameras/)

Alternatively you can take a traditional cam and digitize it the feed using a PC and upload it.

As for the rebroadcasting, remember you will need specialist server space for broadcasting live video as most hosts will only allow prerecorded streaming video.

I was going to do something similar to this a few months back for a gig - we never did the feed in the end but came up with a working solution. If you get either a Windows VPS or Windows dedicated server (it needs to be a dedicated environment) you can set Windows Media Services up on it and can then use the set a live broadcasting point up on it (make sure it uses the PUSH mode), and then download Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 9 for the client machine and can then set that up to use the relevant client side video sources and then PUSH the material to the server causing the broadcast point to start.

Sorry if my instructions aren't that 'clear' but a quick Google should give you more information - but the solution listed worked for us. Also, it's worth noting that Windows Media Services comes on any Windows Server CD as free, and your host should be able to install it for you; the free client (Windows Media Encoder 9) is also a free download from the Microsoft website.

We want something private - not blogtv.com. We're fine implementing it and taking the time needed to do so.

I like the windows suggestion except I favor linux and open source implementations over any other.

Anyone any open source solutions, any special hardware recommendations on the camera side?
