Im looking to setup an asterisk server in my office and want the phone number associated with it to be an Australian Phone number with a gold coast city area code.
Anyone have any idea of any providers?
Short of this im looking for a provider like Vonage who can give me service with a gold coast city area code.

This is a little off topic, but make sure your ISP gives you enough bandwidth for VOIP. I think most Australian ISPs cap bandwidth, so by the end of the month your phone calls might get choppy.
Just throwing that out there.

We would actually be running the server in north america, just want an australian number.
Our office line is more than fast enough for it.

Hi Housefire
I don't know or tried any of the services from any of the entities on this list but I've seen this companies being referred by users from time to time. You might wanna check them out yourself.
Here's a few SIP providers.
- voxalot
- gotalk
- factortel
- bbpglobal
I am not sure if Australian DID numbers are available from these wholesale DID providers, you may check it however.
- sipbroker
- callcentric
I hope this helps.

Seems gotalk offer a plan for unlimited calls to both landlines AND mobiles, while every other provider charges per minute for calls to mobiles.
Anyone worked with them?

Hi mate, I know this is not what you were asking but Optus mobile have a $149 cap hat gives you about $1500 worth of calls. The obvious advantage is you will always have the phone with you and call costs become irrelevant. Just thought I'd throw it out there.
Cheers

Im trying to sign up for GoTalk, however the sign up page only allows you to select Australia as your country, I need to be able to select Canada as my country (I just want an australian number).
I also tried to call them, however the number listed on the site is an AUS 800 number, which cant be dialed from outside the country.
Anyone have any ideas how a Canadian is supposed to sign up?

GoTalk have a fir use policy that you need to be aware of. If you hit any limits of 300 land line, 300 local, 100 mobile or 500 minutes to mobile - they suspend your account for the rest of the month.
I have gotalk
pennytel.com is my personal faviourite - 8c untimed to land line and 12 per minute to mobile
