Hi

We have our ASP .NET sites hosted on a shared MS Professional Package with 1&1.

We previously had the sites setup with option 2 in: faq.oneandone.co.uk/script_cookbook__databases/asp_net/8.html
(sorry im a new user so cannot post a link)

Sadly this meant that each site would not be treated as its own application, therefore if two sites had the same page name either could be returned… Not good!!

It is starting to get tedious ensuring no two sites have pages with the same name so we need to move to option 1: faq.oneandone.co.uk/script_cookbook__databases/asp_net/8.html

The only problem is that the site will then be accessed through a sub folder: instead of domain/page.aspx it will be domain/folder/page.aspx

Not great for our Search Engine rankings.

Has anyone tackled this before? We would move from 1&1 but cannot apply the time currently.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks
B

Its up to the host on how they handle the subdomains. Some hosts only allow one actual IIS website per package and that is what is sounds like you are running into. A single IIS site keeps the shared server clean and the idea is to have separate packages for each domain/subdomain. You can probably setup a separate packages for each domain or if that will not work, you will need to find a different shared host or VPS which allows multiple websites per package.

Hello bernie1234 and welcome to WHT!

I would suggest looking for a more flexible provider. Many should be more than happy to assist or transfer the sites for you.

Best wishes and good luck!
