Okay. This is going to be long. Sorry. :D

Alright. So, right now, I'm hosted at IPowerWeb, and as part of the package, I got the domain name free. Now I want to switch from IPowerWeb's hosting service to something else. I'm thinking about aplus.net, if that matters. Anyway, when I switch, I'll no longer have the free domain registration, so I'll have to do a domain transfer. The thing is, I don't want to have it transfered to aplus.net, I want to do something like godaddy.com (just an example).

What I'm wondering is what order I should do this in. I don't know how to make it work. Should I transfer the domain, notify IPowerWeb of the change, and then switch the hosting as well? Or... ? Help!

Transfer the domain. Then get hosting. But, get your domain first.

Good solid advice. :)

If you got it for free, it probably isn't registered in your name. In that case, you will probably have to buy the domain first from the host and have it transferred into your name.

Luckily, it looks like you're listed as the registrant and the admin contact for the domain:

Hmm, I'm not so sure about that. The poster signed her name above as Jenna, not Amy.

True, I just noticed that. But, from the whois information that I didn't post, it looked like the registrant was an individual and not IPowerWeb.
