Hi

I've been working on this sucker for about a month now...
but I think it might still need just a few adjustments to make it as close to perfect as possible before I make it live. :D

Cruise around, let me know if you find anything buggy..
does it load okay (speed wise) and is it easy to navigate? Thanks for any feedback, I appreciate it!

hmm, nice. It has no image so it loads very fast.
I got nothing to comment.

Very nice and clean.

Just one quick question, is that a modified Alabanza panel?

looks nice :)

Did you make the icons/graphics? If so what program do you use? I ask as some look suspiciously like ones on this board and I wonder if they are free ones anyone can use.

Is the bandwidth and disk space live values (checked when called) or updated at certain intervals? (just a matter of interest)

Thanks for the feedback. I guess it's ready then..

Yes, it's cpanel.. it looks like the Alabanza control panel because that is my favorite layout so far with control panels I've seen.
I might release a similar version to others, I hadn't thought of that yet. :D

_G_ I found the folders on a free images site and added the small icons to each folder myself. I use Corel Photo-Paint and Adobe Photoshop...
Since all the images (except the folder with the hammer, that is still left how I found it minus the color change) have been created/modified by myself,
I don't think you'll find them available anywhere on the web for free. If you do, then someone was kind enough to snatch it from my cpanel without permission :o
Which images look like the ones found on this board?

Bandwidth and disk space values are live. :)

1) on the client feed back folder the Smilies are similar to the ones on this board.

2) on http://demo.hostmagik.com:2082/frontend/demo/mail/pops.html

The arrows look like the ones on the front page of this board but on closer inspection they are a different colour.

The FTP logo at
http://demo.hostmagik.com:2082/frontend/demo/ftp/accounts.html
reminds me of something I have seen before but can't place it.

I think the graphics make it look great but I don't know how people make them look so good. Whenever I make a little graphics it looks like a 2 year old drew it, but I have never been any good at art things.

Oh.. yeah, the little icons on each folder are from other images I have found online or on my computer.

Those smilies are free for people to use, there are about a billion places you can find smilie archives that are free to download and use on your own message boards or wherever. I found the arrow on one of those free image archive sites (I did change the color), and yes it is used here on this board too. I used the WS_FTP icon I have on my desktop for the ftp image.. had to change it a little to fit the small square I placed it in, but that is where it originated from. The little script thing for the pre-installed scripts part of the control panel comes from the java script icon I found browsing through Windows Explorer, and for the free installation image I pasted the perl camel, php logo and mysql logo onto the folder.. hehe but it came out looking kind of funny.

The only images that I made myself are the small icons in each folder for the account profile, billing manager, advanced options, and all of the stats images.

How to make them look good? Well, what I do is I paste a bunch of images I find online or anywhere really that I like together, then I enlarge the image to like 500% and edit each little pixel I think looks out of place. The same goes for images I create myself.. edit and edit it until it looks presentable. Sometimes it can take a few minutes to make it look good, others take hours. You just have to take time and with experience you can piece things together and make them look good. I've been doing this for roughly 4 years now.. so with that said.. my images really should look 1000 times better! :D

If you'd like links to the free image archive sites I frequent, let me know. I have them in my favorites folder.. but I can paste each link if you like. :)

I haven't used graphics off the "free" archives as it always bothered me that the person that set it up just went web we browsing and copied all graphics that looked good. So one day some one might sue me for using their graphics on my sites. Is this a real possiblility? If the sites you get graphics from you know and your trust to be honist then please post them or email the URL's to me. Thank you.

I think it is uses part of cpanel so it will cost (a lot).

I don't think anyone would sue you over a simple graphic.. if the artist really values his/her work he'll get a recorded watermark since I think that is the only way online right now that a graphic designer could actually have proof the image was originally done by him/herself and then sue you for using it.

I'm not a copyright specialist though, so I can't be positive. And we all know anyone can sue you for anything.. so that is a risk we all take for just breathing day in and out. :D

All the graphics I use end up being somewhat original since they aren't the exact original (pasting images you find together and creating a new original isn't against the law as far as I know.. please someone correct me if I am wrong). Anyway, in my experience when I see a site using my graphics I email the webmaster asking to remove it... so far I've been lucky and they do. If anyone emails me and says they have original ownership over any graphic I use for any site I create, I remove it promptly too (given they have proof its theirs and aren't just pulling my leg). It's called respect, and I have full respect for any artist since I expect the same respect myself. :)

elijah, it isn't freeware.. this is just the skin I created for my cpanel. If you find a provider in the VDI NOC you might be able to get cpanel free on the server you rent out (others outside the NOC also provide cpanel, but I don't know if you can get it included with your deal at no extra cost), I have my server with ventures online. :)

None of you are using netscape, right? LOL
I just dusted off my netscape and opened it up to see how it looks there.
OUCH, not looking too good in netscape. Guess some more work does need to be put into it before it is complete... :bawling:
So now it will probably take me another week to finish this! darn...

p.s.
flamethrow I hate Netscape!!
It makes me

Hey when will your site be up?

Elena
03-05-2001, 07:54 AM
Stayed up late to clean up the mistakes that netscape was reading
(for some reason it didn't like that I named some classes in my style sheet a number.. and so I had to edit those numbers in all 300 files of cpanel d'oh!,
that's probably the only draw back of making a skin for this thing LOL).. so any of you netscape loyalist will now see my cpanel skin how it was meant to be. :D

HostBoy, I'm not really sure.. I still have a bunch of things to test out before going totaly live with my new site.
Maybe by the end of March. :) I'm in 'transition mode' right now, or so I like to call it, from changing business names and moving clients from server to server.
hehe big mess and a lot of work. Once I feel comfortable that everything is set for a new batch of clients I'll make an announcement in the advert forum.

All the graphics I use end up being somewhat original since they aren't the exact original (pasting images you find together and creating a new original isn't against the law as far as I know.. please someone correct me if I am wrong).

Actually any use of copyrighted material, even if it is altered is still an infringment of copyright.

Lets say you use a montage of 50 big name corporations blended together into a single image with blurs, text effects, yadda yadda. Those 50 coporations have the perfect right to sue you for using their corporate image without permission. If the image has been altered to a point where no-one can tell it *is* a corporate image chances are no-one will ever notice, but the right of copyright still exists.

The example is easily transferred to photo images or even clipart. Most people won't sue you over an image, nor even care too much if you use their graphics (usually with a source link or a thankyou), but it's a chance I suppose. I generally try to make sure I built things from scratch, or use royalty free images.

In other news....

Took a look at that control panel. I like it. I did notice the alabanza look to it even before you mentioned it. Inspires me that it's actually C-Panel as I was thinking of using C-Panel somewhere down the track bringing over customers from an Alabanza server, so that would solve a lot of the transfer headaches :)

Nice control panel. I have the feeling it could be a little better though. But it should get the job done correctly SO, congratulations to you. Later

I took Gregs advice and created the folders myself.. so they look slightly different now :) I can't really see a difference... but at least I know I won't be getting any emails this time around. Plus, I'll be making a skin for other hosts to use and I don't want them worrying about copyright issues.. so yeah. I was also able to make the images smaller in size so it should load a little bit faster now (minus the free-install image, that one is gonna go and be replaced with something else soon.. it looks bad anyway).

Thanks again everyone for the feedback.. I appreciate it!

HostBoy, if you look in the advertising forums you'll find a post I made that no one ever replied to.. I was asking if people thought my prices and features were set fairly. Look around and you might find it :D

Jburnley ("I have the feeling it could be a little better though"), how can I improve.. hehe don't be shy, I want the feedback, good or bad. :)

Elena,

I really like your CPanel but maybe you concern to use the icons for each feature so they can know what it is about something and a quick desperction abt it then it rocks!!

Would you be interested in selling it?
I wouldn't mind using it on my server. I would of course put my own graphics and buttons.

Please email me at alahater@ureach.com if interested.

Thanks
