Like many many people I was affected by the Registerfly debacle.

Some of my domains were lost, some transfered to Enom and another bunch to GoDaddy.

Its now time to renew some of the domains that were transfered to GoDaddy and to my horror they are suddenly coming coupled with privacy protection which nearly doubles the cost of each domain. These domains were transfered from Registerfly and never had protection there. Suddenly before renewal there's protection, protection that you cannot remove from your shopping cart or GoDaddy account. Now I have to try and login in to some domains by proxy account to remove the protection.

I am currently in a battle with GoDaddy right now, I just want the protection removed end of story, without me logging in to some other account I never created.

I am still just getting over the Registerfly problems and this has me worried already .. I am pretty much ready to say bye bye to GoDaddy.

Did you ask them why they added privacy to your domains?

Definitely contact them to get it removed, it sound slike a "value addon" that they opt'd you in for. You can always transfer to another domain registrar as well. There's a lot of freedom and power of the consumer in the domain registrar industry, you can transfer your domains without affecting your site..gives you the power to speak with your $$ :)

well they seem to be uninterested in removing it.

I have had to go through the domain by proxy account reset procedure several times just to renew a few of my domains.

bye bye godaddy
