Over one hour of downtime so far this month - way over 99.9% guarantee

That is because our provider has some network problems 2 days ago, the whole subnet affected so server# 1 was not reachable for 1 hour, server# 2 have had no problems anyway :)

I've been with HostPacket for a few weeks now, and I got to say I'm pleased with their service/support. I know because I've been with several other hosts before (5 others to be exact), and nothing compares to HostPacket.

If anyone out there wants "true" support, fast account setup (it took less than 24 to get my account setup), and be hosted on a fast server -- then HostPacket.net is right for you!

I must have missed the email regarding the server being down and why it has been down so far well over one hour this month.

What does the 99.9% guarantee actually guarantee?

99.9% uptime. What does that mean?

Do a bit of math...

There is an average of 43,200 minutes each month (720 hours), of those 43,200 minutes the network is expected to be online and functioning for a minimum of 43,156 minutes or 719.5 hours a month with no more than 40 minutes of total downtime a month, this calculates out to a 99.9% uptime.

I don't really like providing any guarantees to anything that I have ever done in life. But, there is nothing wrong with any sort of an uptime guarantee as long as the host is sure that they can provide it.

I know that there are a lot of hosts out there with uptime guarantees and they just figure that they have the money to refund the customer if the site is ever down so they can make the guarantee, which is not fair to the customer. A guarantee is a promise from the host that it will not occur.

There is a host on this board that offers a 100% guaranteed uptime, but with the lines that they have I would guarantee something of the same.

There is nothing wrong with hosts who offer the uptime guarantees. It's great business practices especially if you can follow through with it!

Thanks for the calculation - I actually knew it was roughly 40 mintues - My domain has been down over 1 hour and 40 minutes so far this month alone.

My question about what the 99.9% actually guarantee's is the frivilous manner in which this is put on alot of websites with little regard for actually ensuring it happens.

The best of 4 providers I had on the past 4 years. They helped me a lot on backups and lame questions. Only had a few problems with Hacker attacks, but the server so far is faaast! And so the support.

sorry but im with hostpacket and the service isn't so great!

Support is okay but the provision of web hosting (which is what I signed up for  ) has not lived up to my standards. Sometimes it seems like they're unsue of what they're doing, I got the impession that they were one of these people that signed up for a dedicated server over @ RackShack, knowing little of how to manage it. (Which in this case, is TRUE.) in my opinion i'd just wait a short while before going with them.

HostPacket.net offers a 99.9% uptime guarantee, which they've failed to live up to. So, what does that MEAN? Are we eligable for a refund? Free month of hosting? What???

LASTLY, I find it very unprofessional that you don't even inform us of downtime/maintainance! At least tell us why the heck our site's down, I think that's pretty much reasonable!! (AND NOT JUST ON WEBHOSTINGTALK.COM  )

The 99.9% guarantee is the biggest joke in the industry. It's not a guarantee if you don't get anything if the vendor doesn't meet it.
