View Full Version : Dedicated server with RAID?

Since it looks like Racklocation is not currently an option, are there any other hosts that offer RAID in a dedicated server (not a RaQ) priced under around $300 a month?

You'll be hard-pressed to find that, but look for a host offering a system with IDE raid - something like the 3ware cards.

Cyclone,

This may be a bit out of your price range (It's $400/month), but Jay just posted a special that they are running... it seems to be a very decent system and it has IDE RAID.

But make sure you find out what sort of RAID card they are using. You (almost certainly) want hardware RAID, ie something like the 3ware 6200, NOT software RAID like the promise fasttrak.

A real RAID card will support more or less any operating system; software RAID like the promise fasttrak will only run on systems they have written drivers for (and will be much slower anyway).

Yep, that's a good point. On Linux at this point, if it isn't an Escalade (3ware) card, it's NOT Hardware IDE RAID.

Actually I dont know if were talking about the same card but fasttrak does put out a UDMA 100 IDE Fasttrak raid card, the coontroller is built for raid hence it is a hardware solution.
