If this is the wrong area of the forum, sorry about that. I just thought that this might be the better area to ask if people are going to Webhosting Day? or if you have gone before, what did you think of it? Web hosting in general is getting quite global so it's nice to have a conference close to people who don't live in USA and Canada.

Anyway..I think I will go check it out this year since I am in the area during that time.

I have not heard of webhosting day... where is it hosted? and do you have any website links? as our company always tries to go to these sort of events when we can :)

Their website is www.webhostingday.de and it is in Köln (Cologne). Heh..try typing using Euro keyboards then switching to North American and back again..horrible..haha..I found some nice cheap flights from Stanstead with Ryanair and HLX.

Sounds good, may look into the flights and see if I can get some tickets for either myself to go down there or get a few of us :D

Do not like Ryanair, better to go with easy jet for a cheap flight :)

So the annual MickeyMouseSoft/SW-Soft advertising event is happening again then :D

I'd need to see the keynote and other forum discussions as otherwise its just another expensive networking event where you're getting sold-at constantly.

Yeah, that was only "one" year. I had a nice talk with the people running it and really slammed into them about that part. We'll see about the changes..well, I always like to go for the food anyway.

I'll be interested to hear whether anybody knows who is exhibiting or who is speaking. I couldn't find much on the Web site.

Anybody know?

Now finally something is in the neighborhood, I almost feel obligated to attend. But looking at the scars information, it looks to me as it is a pricey SW Soft sales talk....

The information that is present, is all about money and not about content. A shame ....

You know it.

We actually have a WHB Smart Car. We never got it painted or twin-engined (the original plan). I'm debating whether I can motivate myself to drive all that way in a Smart Car, in which case... we'll do it!

Matt, if you have a spare place in the smart car you know how to contact me. :D Frankly, I think it's a crazy idea and a £9.99 flight with EasyJet or Jet2 would be far better, but the thought of a trip through Northern Europe in a Smart Car has some sort of strange appeal to it. :stickout:

Lol, are you planning on wearing the same clothes for 4-5 days? You can't fit a loaf of bread in the boot, let alone a suitcase.... and this is before we put the second engine in it!

I wonder if it'd tow a trailer?

It might be more practical using a proper car to tow the smart car. ;)

I'm going with a partner, it's my first time not sure what to expect. It's a good way of plugging your company.

You may get some colo interest (looking at your signature), but if it's anything like HostingCon, it'll be full of shared hosting companies - from the biggest right down to the smallest.

I'll just wear all my clothes. 10 layers. :D

Still haven't decided whether I'm going (I'm not sure how anybody can commit without knowing a schedule. ). If I do go, I'll jump on a dirt cheap flight. :)

I didn't make it last year as it coincided with ICANN in Lisbon. I think we got invited via Microsoft ....

Any hotel recommendations? Is there a conference hotel?

As I understand, it's at some theme park type place... but accommodation there too? I'd rather stay in the city and commute if it's viable.

From the info PDF...

"Four star hotel Ling Boa with Asian theming directly connected to convention center or five star hotel Intercontinental in the City of Cologne."

I would imagine the 4* Ling Boa is a family orientated hotel, considering it's in the theme park.

mdrussell
01-07-2008, 11:25 AM
Yeah. Intercontinental sounds better... I'm sure the Ling Boa will love drunk conference goers coming into a family hotel at all hours.

I'm tempted (almost made it last year, but nobody seemed to be going), but like said before some indication of what's on the agenda wouldn't be a bad thing. :)

I was thinking that yesterday, then I found the PDF with a lot more information. http://www.webhostingday.de/images/informationen_eng.pdf

Maybe that will help. :)

We sent a delegation last year - Surreal was not the word for it :)

Not a 'great' event, and the theme park angle certainly keeps it interesting :)

Hi guys, looking forward to party with you again Matt. :)

The hotel is closed for all other guests then the conference guests, so i guess that it will be pretty good for those who wants to party too...

Who doesn't want to stay in a theme park btw? ;)

See you in Germany!

Hi Guys,

I WILL be going this year. Who will be there? Sorry, I don't know anyone here really..just come and go ..lurk and sometimes post.

As far as I know there are two hotels, but the Ling Bao is apparently fully booked, from what I was told and the downtown hotel is the only one left, but it has free shuttle service to the event. BTW, there are no families at ling boa..it's only conference goers..the park is closed at this time of year and is ONLY for the conference.

Lets meet up at the event! Since I have been there before I can tell you that it's different than the conventional North American tradeshow/convention because it's a much smaller crowd and easier to network. You'll meet loads of hosting companies from around Europe and I know this year will be different from the past. The problem before was that SWSoft is a sponsor, so they invited all their big clientele from around the area which I thought was a pretty staunch move because they could have easily been picked up and converted by HSPhere who was at the event.

I'm the inside scoop guy, so I'll give as much detail as possible.

Ask away..

If you are going say "I".

I guess I will see you there too. I'm booked in the Regent..didnt think they had a continental hotel though..The earlier years they only had 1 hotel..think this show is gonna be a much bigger one. I'll be the crazy guy hanging out with The WHIR.

Well I was there today and it was smaller than I expected it to be. Had a chat with the R1soft guys, their backup solution is excellent. Anybody went to the after party?

Oh ya...

food was great..it seems to get better every year..could not make myself stop!

Way more diverse than the previous years and again, awesome time to network.

See you guys next year! Hopefully more WHTers will go. It was nice meeting some of you guys.
