Like T1, OC 12, OC 48, DS-3 etc? Which is the best?

They are just measurements of capacity; nothing more and nothing less.

FYI:

T1 is 1.54Mbit
T3 is 54Mbit (30 T1 channels)
OC3 is 155Mbit

Keep in mind that what capacity isn't the only thing that is important. I would rather be on a T3 that peaks at 10Mbit during the day than an OC3 that peaks at a 150Mbit.

Peering is also important. Diverse routes are a big factor.

You need to look at all this information.

Actually a T3 is 672 individual 64kbps channels ( ~43mbps ), a T1 is 24 individual 64kbps channels so a T3 is 28 T1s.

DS3 = T3

KDA: Ahh, you learn something new every day.

So what you're saying is that a T3 is really 28 T1's (as opposed to 30).

Is the individual 64Kbit channels what allows people to split a T1 into a certain percentage for voice and a certain percentage for data?

I've got a page on my site that covers much of what you'd want to know on the subject. It's at http://techcellence.net/dataspeeds.htm
