I have a buddy starting a web hosting company reselling. Currently his business license is a DBA (Doing Business As). He asked me if the credit card statement will list his DBA name or his legal business name? Reason why I'm posting this, is obviously because I don't have the slightest clue... Anyone know?

It depends on how you sign up with the credit card processor. If you use the DBA name, it will be the DBA name. If you use the main company name, it will be that name.

uuallan is right. What ever company name he used on the application will show up on the statements.

Thanks a bunch, very helpful, he didn't really want his legal business name in their (since it's his name). I appreciate the help.

You'll probably get both the company name and the individual's name on the card.

I know what you mean. I was applying for a Thawte cert a while ago and after a few questions to a rep was running off to register a business name to prevent the cert showing me as the holder. It's more a matter of image than anything. People tend to prefer to deal with a business or a company, than an individual, though still prefer an individual name when it comes to issues like support :)

It will always depend on your merchant service. Getting accepted for a merchant account is a pretty stringent process. You have to meet some reasonably high credibility standards. As such, it may help to use your DBA name or actual legal company name instead of a mere domain name. That in some way may make you look more responsible to the Merchant Bank.

We solved that one...

akashik.net *is* our registered business name :)

Our name is CompCity Network (compcity.net). So really there isn't much difference between the two.
