rhytha 08-07-2002, 12:52 PM guys can anyone give me step-by-step instructions for haveing my own nameserver. i just bought a reseller account from matrixreseller and their support is mediocre.i mean what information should i have first from my webhost like IP, what information should i provide to my registerer etc.
thanx in advance.
bye
Akash 08-07-2002, 01:13 PM you should have from your host IPS and nameserveres to match them.
Go into your registrar and you should see a link that sames "register nameservers" or "manage nameservers". Enter this information here and wait 24 hours. Then you should be set :)
Andrew 08-07-2002, 02:17 PM What they probably did was just give you the IPs, allowing you to create whatever nameservers you like. As akashd said, with your registrar, you should be able to fill in a form specifying the ips as nameservers. Usually you'd make them NS1.yourdomain.com or NS2.yourdomain.com, each with it's own IP.
That is unless you used NameSecure. Then you will have to email them and wait a month.
rhytha 08-07-2002, 03:44 PM akash i registerd thru net4domains. there is no "manage nameservers" anywhere in the control panel. thanx guys for the quick help. what should i do???
Email them.
Tell them you need to register these namservers.
Then list the nameservers your host gave you, and their correspoding IP numbers.
Then wait.

rhytha 08-08-2002, 03:27 AM  guys this is what i got when i queried internic.net nameserver whois. does this mean i got my nameserver??
Server Name: NS.RHYTHA.COM
IP Address: 65.57.228.21
Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
Referral URL: http://www.networksolutions.com
but ns.rhytha.com is taking me to my old host and the ip address is taking me to my new host!! i don't know what that means is every thing ok or something wrong
Techark 08-08-2002, 03:48 AM Your host should answer these questions for you.
But depends on how long the IP address on the nameserver has been changed even tho a who is of internic may show the new IP address it can still take a day to fully propagate.
SoftWareRevue 08-08-2002, 04:02 AM As others have tried to tell you; you need to align yourself with a host that is going to support you. These are easy questions for them.
If they can't help you with something this simple; what is going to happen when you have clients of your own with issues that you will need to rely on your host to resolve? You need to move to a different host.
Dreamz 08-08-2002, 07:14 AM Net4Domains does'nt allow you to Register your Name Servers, even if you request them they will refuse it. Its very strange though Name Server Registration should be done by Domain Registrar for free.
The same case happened with 2 of our clients who had there domain registered with them  The only way left for them to book new domain through RegisterFly.com and register there name servers.

Alan - Vox 08-08-2002, 09:25 AM godaddy.com lets you register the name servers in their control panel.
I think your host should help you, but if you do need assistance with registering your name servers, you should first take it to the registrar. You wouldn't go to the registrar for web hosting support would you?
rhytha 08-08-2002, 11:03 AM  guys i managed to register my nameserver. just follow these steps and if you have any problem just post. You have to have your domain registered thru netsol or one of its partners(mine was net4domains)
1.)goto netsol.com
2.)click on account manager
3.)on account manager page .enter your domain name under" Type in the domain name you want to manage....." and click go
4.)on the next page select "create or delete a host" then click go
5.)select new and enter your adminstrative email address for the domain. in the next page just enter the required details thats it.
this is what i did? if i did anything wrong just point it out guys.dreamz try this out and post your outcome, i too booked my domain thru net4domains:stickout

my one suggestion to you is to transfer away from netsol and/or its partners you will be  when it comes time to renew your domain. plus, you could probably find domains a lot cheaper than what you are paying right now net4domains was too slow for me to check their prices
Dreamz 08-08-2002, 11:40 AM You are correct, Net4Domains buy domains from NetworkSolutions and hence changes to the domain can also be done from NetworkSolutions as everything works with an authorised email which is associated with that domain. I checked the steps you said and I can say now that you are Correct in regard for registering your Name Servers.
