Duster 03-03-2001, 10:38 PM If you do a search on registrars, you can find several good ones near or below that price. As with hosts, be wary of shopping by price alone or you deserve what can happen to you. Example 000domains, com, $13.50, great service alldns.com, $12.75, lousy service* - use only if you are an idiot or masochist The fact that you are asking might rule out the former ;) I don't know about the latter. *lousy service defined as poor attitude, unresponsive to e-mails unless using a lawyer is threatened, - you could lose domain names due to their inadequate system. The "we are changing to a better system" excuse wears thin after several months. They have a hidden $20 departure fee if you move to another registrar. Basically, registration has consisted of submitting requests to them, waiting to see of they got them and if the registration took place. That's why you could lose domain names. Even NSI has better service. Cheap. http://www.powerpipe.com - I've personally used them and must say they are very good. Great support. http://www.onestop.net - Never used them. Cheap. http://www.godaddy.com - Great support. km 03-04-2001, 12:45 AM Never on getadomain.com - $10 & you have to refer 5 email to them. It has been 2 weeks now, I still didn't get my DNS changed.(It's my first change since I registered) Emailed them several times and they tell me to be patient. :/ (hey, it's 2 weeks now, buddy!) I already got my other 4 domains changed several times in this 2 weeks. Does anybody face this problem before or it just my luck? I think powerpipe.com is good and cheap. $8.88 rite? Any experience with powerpipe.com? [Edited by km on 03-03-2001 at 11:50 PM] RotoHost 03-04-2001, 01:16 AM Hi, try http://www.weblaunching.net - $12 a year. OpenSRS reseller. Good Luck! razedvector 03-04-2001, 01:34 AM I have used registerfly, which is $9.99, and have had no problems with 2 registrations through them. I then used myDomain for DNS management. Cheap Cheap Cheap. :) tymonhall 03-04-2001, 02:11 AM Enom.com Get a reseller account and it is $8.95 per year. gnorthey 03-04-2001, 02:12 AM Don't use RegisterFREE, I currently use them, and they are bad news. It has taken up to a month for DNS changes to go through (and that's not the fault of my local ISP or hosting provider. I punch in changes for the whois computers and it shows up on their comps in a couple hours. No one else (I used many different servers) and my host provider used another as well and it always pointed to old servers. Called them and emailed 10 or 20 messages and never got it fixed. FInally emailed several people to have them look at their servers and locate the problem. It was the RegisterFREE people. RegisterFREE, "Half price, no service." NMCB 03-04-2001, 02:32 AM IMHO, unless you purchase in large quantities, enom.com is still quite expensive for registering domain names. I will admit that it does offer some nice features. GordonH 03-04-2001, 04:46 AM Hello Stick to Opensrs resellers because its much easier to make changes when you change web host. Its all done through a web interface so there is no waiting around for the registrar to change name servers. Gordon razedvector 03-04-2001, 09:15 AM Not that I am pushing anything or anythinng, just an FYI... registerfly is a reseller of enom tymonhall 03-04-2001, 01:04 PM So is namezero.com I have look around and there are a lot of people that are resellers. To become a reseller is free and then you pay 8.95 per domain if you want to get cheapier then that you do have to buy in bulk. I jus signup when them the day that Seattle had their earthquake. klisis 03-04-2001, 01:44 PM Domain regisering has gone cheap enough. Now it's time to face their services. I currently use http://joker.com Although their homepage design stinks, their service is A class. akashik 03-04-2001, 02:13 PM klisis, really? I'm suprised. A while ago I was looking for a registrar and saw Joker. The shocking state of their website turned me off in about 30 seconds. A guess I missed out there :) Greg Moore tymonhall 03-04-2001, 02:19 PM Well some times we should judge a book by its cover. I also did the same thing. Duster 03-04-2001, 02:27 PM I'm a joker. I don't play one on tv. Kidding aside, I see nothing wrong with their web site. The main page is not cluttered with too much stuff (like so many), navigation is easy enough and the information is easy to find. I'll take that over sites that use all the special effects possible yet still say nothing. Less is more. [Edited by Duster on 03-04-2001 at 03:19 PM] vizi 03-04-2001, 02:33 PM Interesting thread. It goes to show you. The better the site design, the more likely you are to get a client. The worse the design, the more clients you will loose. Dylan 03-04-2001, 02:36 PM I've never ever had problems with getadomain.com That refer 5 thing has fallen away. godaddy.com $8.95 - haven't used them yet. tymonhall 03-04-2001, 02:39 PM godaddy charges so much to registar with them klisis 03-04-2001, 02:47 PM Originally posted by akashik klisis, really? A guess I missed out there :) Greg Moore Yeah, their website is really... well. But their service is good. That's for sure. I currently have two or three domains with them. Changes are usually made in 4 to max 24 hours. (You get first mail almost instantly, saying your changes have been confirmed and will be changed within a few hours.). I have no idea how I registered my domains with them. When I realized who I am with, I was with joker :p jiminsd 03-04-2001, 08:19 PM I recently transfered a couple to registerfly ($9.99) and I like them so far. They also give you redirection control as well as DNS. http://www.registerfly.com Gleem 03-04-2001, 08:31 PM Try powerpipe.com $8.88/yr. km 03-04-2001, 10:12 PM powerpipe.com was cheap - $8.88. I wonder why not so much people use it in here? Howz it with their service i wonder? m6.net 03-04-2001, 10:33 PM Even we came to know about godaddy, never tried! Anybody with some experience with godaddy. tymonhall 03-04-2001, 10:46 PM Goddady is talking thousands to get started. I didn't want to pay that to just registar domains for my customers. tymonhall 03-04-2001, 10:48 PM another thing, with enom.com they are not a webhosting company so that means when and if my customers find out about them I don't have to be in direct competition with them. Dylan 03-04-2001, 11:07 PM My clients moan and grown non-stop about enom. Don't know what it is, but they do. tymonhall 03-04-2001, 11:13 PM If there is something I need to know about them before I signup too many domains please somebody let me know. I just decieded to go with them because of the price. and the fact that you don't have to have a minimum or anything. |
