Fair Dinkum 08-07-2002, 11:57 AM I use KDE here mostly. Every once in awhile I will switch to Gnome though. viGeek 08-07-2002, 05:23 PM KDE has my vote. Ahmad 08-07-2002, 06:21 PM I like KDE better. In GNOME, everything is huge. Besides, I don't like GNOME's colors. I know they are all customizable, but that is my impression. secludo 08-07-2002, 06:33 PM Enlightenment! akashik 08-07-2002, 06:40 PM KDE. Never been a fan of gnome, beyond their logo. Greg Moore Andrew 08-07-2002, 07:07 PM KDE rules with an iron fist! :) adammc 08-07-2002, 07:32 PM I like gnome, no particular reason...just that I happened to use that first and got used to it. Tried out KDE for a bit, didn't really like it much :) Tux-e-do 08-07-2002, 07:42 PM KDE. Gnome just doesn't cut it. adammc 08-07-2002, 07:44 PM why exactly do so many people use KDE instead of gnome? StarGate 08-07-2002, 08:11 PM Originally posted by adammc why exactly do so many people use KDE instead of gnome? It is better. More functions, mor eeverything. It's like you would ask why people use Windows Explorer (Windows Desktop since Windows 95) over Program Manager (Windows Desktop in Windows 3.0-3.11)... I use KDE! RedHat 7.3 Professional RULES! StarOffice also! :agree: Phrozen 08-07-2002, 08:35 PM KDE here as well. secludo 08-07-2002, 09:34 PM Originally posted by adammc why exactly do so many people use KDE instead of gnome? I don't, I think it looks way too cartoonish and childish. I used Gnome as my first ever, and even after using Gnome for only 15 minutes or so, when I started up KDE I hated it. Always have. I haven't installed KDE 3 yet, maybe there are some improvements. I just think that it looks too cluttered, and don't even want to take the time to customize it. Enlightenment is the best IMHO, I use it and love it. michaeln 08-08-2002, 12:41 AM Well since posted this poll I have decided I like KDE much better... ;) Will have to look into this enlightenment thing... <quote> KDE. Never been a fan of gnome, beyond their logo. </quote> What is so special about the logo? :) JTY 08-08-2002, 12:58 AM GNOME, runs good, fairly stable. ToastyX 08-08-2002, 01:13 AM NEITHER. Both are slow, bloated memory hogs that do nothing but get in my way, but that's just my opinion. I use Window Maker. :) shaunewing 08-08-2002, 01:20 AM I like Gnome + Enlightenment. True it is big and bulky to start with, but there are settings you can use to make the menu smaller, etc. and to make the system look nicer as a whole. I've never liked KDE much. --Shaun jayjay 08-08-2002, 01:21 AM FLUXBOX! !GOOGLE FLUXBOX :) hehe. GlideTech 08-08-2002, 02:18 AM I use KDE, but usually find myself doing things from command line because its quicker. Then again, I started out using server installs, so the workstation install was a new thing to me. sadistikal 08-08-2002, 10:35 PM I'm in the minority here it appears but I like gnome. I'm not into the gnome vs kde/ vi vs emacs flame wars though. Just a personal preference. Sadistikal Shyne 08-08-2002, 10:48 PM Both window managers look bad. They are just copy of windows GUI. Nothing unique about them. Get blackbox or something like that. secludo 08-08-2002, 10:56 PM Originally posted by Shyne Get blackbox or something like that. Enlightenment!!! :) :D :stickout :liplick: StarGate 08-08-2002, 11:10 PM Originally posted by jayjay FLUXBOX! !GOOGLE FLUXBOX :) hehe. Yeah FluxBox rules indeed. 2Grumpy 08-09-2002, 02:58 AM I have to work, I need apps to work with. Kmail Konsole Konqueror I simply seem to be able to get more DONE in KDE, Gnome looks good, but I just can't "work" in it for long. fatman 08-09-2002, 03:52 AM I use KDE too. DoobyWho 08-09-2002, 04:28 AM I've only used gnome michaeln 08-09-2002, 01:36 PM lol I guess this is a touchy subject for some... ;) ToastyX 08-09-2002, 04:44 PM Originally posted by Dixiesys I have to work, I need apps to work with. I use some KDE programs in Window Maker, including KMail and Konsole. Why doesn't anyone else use Window Maker? secludo 08-09-2002, 06:12 PM Originally posted by ToastyX ...but you don't need to use KDE to run KDE apps.
