Guys --

Can I count on GoDaddy's Total DNS service and name servers for my rather popular websites?

Currently working flawlessly with a 3rd party service but incur charges when I go above 20M queries a month.

Just wondering if GoDaddy provide DNS as-is or provide some sort of SLA, known restrictions or limitations.

Best,

I have only had a couple of days of DNS downtime in using the GoDaddy name servers (in over 5 years). If you search on this forum and others you will find those cases. So for domains that I own that get a lot of traffic that I do not carea bout downtime then I use them. The only downside with their free DNS though is that their support really know nothing about it (if you have a complicated DNS setup).

With Enom I have had a little worse luck with. I can easily say that there were a few days of downtime in the last 6 months alone.

But if this is your business I would always recommend using a provider with very little downtime and are experts in it. It is cheaper than doing it yourself and they have to worry about it then.

Top anycasted DNS providers (if you care about speed and true enterprise redundancy) are ultradns.com, dnsmadeeasy.com, netriplex.com, akamai.com, and verisign.com.

Other great DNS providers that I have had no downtime with are dyndns.org, easydns.com, and no-ip.com.

Of the "free" providers I would only recommend everydns.net. Dave runs a top notch shot there.

Hope it helps.
