What does everything think of plesk? What are the disadvantages of it? Would you recommend using it?

Most people who use it, love it, all the other ones are colorfull peaices of crap. I would search to get a more detailed responce.

Plesk users love it, and if you're used to cPanle or ensim, just give it a couple of weeks. I'v never used it personaly, but hear good things about it.

It's quite good, but PSA 5.0 is coming out in a few weeks and is supposed to be much better!!!

what i dont fully understand about plesk is

why does it have to have total control over your box? why does it install its own httpd, and all its own services? WHy cant it store home directories in /home like a normal server? Like, its either all or nothing with plesk it looks like.

so if i want to upgrade apache, qmail, proftpd, php, anything like that, can i just upgrade from source or rpms, or do i need to do the upgrade through plesk?

If you have the RPM version, you can upgrade the packages yourself.

You can upgrade anything even with the Standard version, except for apache, qmail, proftpd (not sure), and mysql
