View Full Version : VenturesOnline.com A+++
AlaskanWolf 03-03-2001, 05:16 PM Heres my experience with VenturesOnline
After running RaQs since their inception, We decided to go forward with plans to go to (real) Linux hosting, We decided between VDI and Ventures, and I found out from a email that Paul L is a partner in the new company, I remembered talking to a Paul L from Ultraspeed a few months ago and was going to go with them back then, but found a somewhat better deal with hispeed.com
We decided Cpanel would be the breakmaker for us, so about a week ago, i ordered the Option #2 with additional ram and daily backups, they confirmed my order and said it would be ready in about a week
Before the server was ready, Daniel was kind enough to give me a batch of ips, so I can get a head start on the NS process
Yesterday, Daniel im'd me my settings, but before that scared the be-doggles out of me asking "What if I told you your server burned up and melted" lol...boy did my heart start racing!!
We have worked on the server a day now configuring it and we are very very impressed with Daniel and Paul and their whole crew. They offer a solid affordable product and suburb support, something I have never seen in the likes of Dialtone, Catalog or Hispeed
thats good to know! :)
if you dont get the daily backup option, what are the other backup solutions available to clients?
AlaskanWolf 03-03-2001, 07:15 PM Well, I figure you can ask them to install RAID or mirroring the drives, something to that affect. With Cpanel, the user has the option as well to download a backup of their website so thats a nice feature
Overall, the Cpanel really blows the RaQ's out of the water in every aspect.
Si-WHN 03-03-2001, 07:24 PM and not only that...it's flexible...we're very happy so far :-)
regards,
Simon

Just for clarification, RAID is not a backup feature. It is only a redundancy reature. If you want to backup, RAID is not the answer. Either a second hard drive or tape(the best way) is the way to go.
Agreed that Cpanel blows away Raq.
pmak0 03-03-2001, 11:14 PM Doesn't anyone here find the cpanel to be kind of slow?
Well, it's faster than the RaQ control panel, but there's two things that I don't like about cpanel:
(1) All those graphics on the top half of the screen. It takes a while to load on a 56k modem connection.
(2) The top menu frame which takes up 1/3 of the screen on an 800x600 display. It doesn't need to be that big, and leaves me with less scrolling space below it.
AlaskanWolf 03-04-2001, 12:05 AM Yes, the default is pretty slow, and the likes of CPanel all know about it....
Just follow the instructions at http://vdi.net/manual/ and design your own set of icons...

Matrix 03-04-2001, 03:30 AM PepsiCoke,
Is the site thats on VenturesOnline the one in your signature? And how much ram are you using since you upgraded? Also do you know the tech hrs for them?
Thanks
Hi Everyone..
I've been lurking here for a while before deciding to post. I'm also a newbie in GHT and GVillage.
I just went off the ICQ with Paul of VenturesOnline. He's friendly and willing to help out a Linux dumbo like me by answering so many of my dumb questions.
However, ain't it the way with most webhost when they're going to lead to a sale? I wonder...as with my experiences with a few other dedicated solution host.
I'm looking forward to signing up with VO being that no objections comes from my partners..and so far, their reputation is just as good as reported.

AlaskanWolf 03-04-2001, 08:39 AM http://www-hosting.net is not on our new server as of yet, It still resides on our RaQ4. I am still waiting for good ole Network Solutions to do our ns host entrys, which was approved 48 hours ago, and has yet to show up in even their database
The server was upgraded 256 mb ram, so it has a total of 512mb ram. We selected Server #2
Their techs are from 9am to 8pm, will have to check their site. I usually dont use tech support, only time i ever need someone is when the server goes down
Kaith Sutai-Rustaz 03-04-2001, 03:11 PM We host 7 sites with VO, and so far, no complaints. Theres a few issues pending, but they have to do more with Cpanel hiccups than VO support. Every time I toss something at em, they've been helpful, and more than patient. I've bugged both Paul and Daniel often enough on a lot of the 'hows this work' and 'what did I blow up now' to feel comfortable dealing with them. We are looking at getting a dedicated server in the near future and are looking very seriously at getting it thru them. I'd give their support an A. :)
webfors 03-05-2001, 11:02 AM Ditto, Ditto, Ditto! :D
VO have been excellent, as was Daniel's support when he was with UUSA.
