From Lakers.comFrom Elgin to Magic to Shaq, and through nine championships, Chick Hearn provided play-by-play for the Lakers' entire 42-year history in Los Angeles. The beloved announcer, who called 3,338 consecutive Lakers games, died Monday at age 85. The Hall of Famer is widely credited with introducing terms such as "slam dunk," "airball" and others to the basketball vernacular. It is unfrotunate to seem him go... But it seems he lived a great life, 85 years...

They had an article about him on National Public Radio last night, very interesting .. one of the fathers of basketball.

Never heard of him myself, but guess he was wellknown over there.

No we can hold it at hawkhill road, there's a few hoops there like.
You will be able to come to Edinburgh soon won't you?.
See my slam dunks and hoola hoops and twisters and me and some of the boys have made a new thing call the helter skelter and that's when you like spin around and slam the thing into the hoop on like the big hard plastic hard board.
Should see us like, we draw a crowd.

Ok, you guys are on. I'll bring a contingent of WHT Americans. Chick will guide us from above.

And the boys from hawkhill primary school can play better than the Lakers.
Big bunch of overpaid girls which quite frankly have something wrong with them cause there to tall..
So Rotifer do you think your up to the job?, we don't play like girls remember although we do use a few girls to use as a ball fethcher.

This wasn't supposed to be a "fun" thread. A man died, that I respect, and you guys are making your ignorant, immature, jokes...

I certainly wasn't attempting to make light of Mr. Hearn's death. When a man dies at the age of 85 (my grandfather is 85, something I have thought about) it is better to celebrate his life rather than mourn his death. Recognizing his accomplishments is the point of the article you mentioned and the audio commentary I linked to. However, my apologies ... I grew up a Laker fan as well.

It is understandable to celebrate his death rather than to mourn it, however, it is still death, and should not be assosiated with neither fun nor with childish humor.

Well look you obviously don't know what humour is.

Well no. I don't know how you can say not to make a comment about something else when talking about this man when hardly anyone had heard of him.

Well maybe a few have heard of him but i doubt they think very highly of the man considering he was a bad player.

Who cares about him being a bad player?

I don't see how this guy differs from your next door neighbour and considering he was a rubbish player well.......

Whatever, keep your opinions to yourself... He was a very well-respected person...
