View Full Version : is ONE raq4 better than TWO raq3..?

I have a site that pulls 70-110 thousand pageviews per month (with a busy Ikonboard forum of 3000+ members) and was wondering if a RAQ4 with 256MB ram would be able to cope, or if would be better off splitting it into 2 cheaper RAQ3 servers one to serve the graphics (about 1 gig per day) and the other for the html and php pages (1.5-2 gig per day).

I noticed that rackshack.net offers a RAQ4 with 256mb ram and 150GB of transfer per month for only 128.00 US per month (plus a setup fee) and wondered if this would be able to cope with our demands..?

We currently run with Virtualis on a celeron 600 with 96MB of Ram and 120GB transfer limit per month and since we added the forum we have noticed a slowdown on the server with Internal Server Error messages during peak times. If we do go for the new RAQ4, it may be worth sticking the forum on a seperate virtual server with the same provider.

I have no experience with these types of server and would value the views of any experienced regulars in this forum.

Hope to hear from you soon :)

Well, you are comparing a RAQ4 with 256mb ram and a celeron 600 with 96MB of Ram. IMHO your problem could be the amount of RAM in the current server. I would think that if you increased it to 256, you'd see a significant improvement. I know this doesn't answer your question, nor even address it at all, but it's just an observation.

Thanks for the observation, but it looks like I will be moving to another provider anyway as my server costs are over 450 USD per month there are better deals around now. My current provider wants another 500 dollars to add more RAM to the system and I feel that this is the last straw.

So if anyone can answer my original questions this would be great :)
