View Full Version : places that offer FREE hosting w/ purchase of a domain name?????
BattleForums 08-06-2002, 03:15 AM hey all,
I'm looking for a site that offers domain registration and includes free hosting with it... I tried to sign up with DotEasy.com, but they declined my application cause of false information in the whois, so whatever. Anyways, i'm just looking for a host that offers atleast 500MB of bandwidth per month and 20MB of space for free with purchase of a domain name.
Price needs to be $25 a month or less. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
BF

okihost 08-06-2002, 03:24 AM I am not sure I understand.. You want a buy a domain which is typically 8.00-35.00 per year and you want free hosting. I understand that. The only part I dont understand is what the price of 25.00 a month or less it. Let me try to help you out a little. First go register a domain at www.godaddy.com for 8.95 a year thats the cheapest one I think and it allows you full control over your domain so in the event you want to move hosts there is no way for the host to hold your domain "hostage" which several people have told me has happened to them.. Then come back here look around for a good reliable host and email them a couple times and once you get good response times come back here and do a search on that host and if nothing too bad pops up go ahead purchase some hosting from them go back to godaddy and point your domain to them and your done.. I have heard on several occasions of the "purchase a domain get free hosting for life" hosts not allowing you to switch hosts and only givin you the option to upgrade to there "paid" plans which is usually 300% higher than what an average host charges.. remember if it sounds too good to be true is is good luck..
BattleForums 08-06-2002, 03:58 AM I'm looking for a host that offers FREE hosting with the purchse of a domain name.
Hiccups 08-06-2002, 04:13 AM So... You will pay up to $25 per month for a domain name as long as they throw in some free hosting in along with it???
You should be able to find that sort of bargain somewhere..
sidez 08-06-2002, 04:27 AM www.directnic.com
www.enom.com
Two of these have somesort of hosting if you use their nameservers.
OKIHost gave you some very sound advice. Your money, your control. Think about it.
For a 20 meg site, you should be willing to shop around. If some domain seller throws in hosting for free, you can't shop around, which is probably the way they want it.
Akash 08-06-2002, 11:25 AM many registrars will only host certain services (ie, email or 1-2 pages) or forward the domain to a URL. IMO godaddy and enom are the two top choices for this.
There are also hosts that offer domain names for free with hosting, I'm sure you could find a deal in the request or offers forum
jake712 08-06-2002, 08:29 PM If you purchase your domain anme from them they'll give you 20MBs, 1 GB bandwidth, and 10 emal accounts. They're domain names run around $20 for .com. If you want to ping a customers site, you can ping jollygnome.net, which is mine and hosted with them. I don't use it any more, just waiting for it to expire.
Hope this helps!
Lurleene 08-06-2002, 08:56 PM Yeah, ok, this really doesn't make sense to me either.
You could:
A) Spend $9/year on a GoDaddy domain name and get normal, paid hosting for about $5-$8/month for about 100 MB / 2 GB. End cost is $69 - $109/year.
OR
B) Spend $25/month on a domain for FREE HOSTING. End cost is $300/year.
Well, I guess some people like to spend more for the magic word FREE  I'm sure if you take this to the requests forum, you'll get plenty of offers.

sidez 08-06-2002, 09:31 PM Lurleene : I think domains go for like $25 yearly and not monthly :)
TheMMIz 08-06-2002, 10:09 PM If you get a domain name with AffordableHost.com they give you a years worth of free hosting. AffordableHost has been around for years too, and are a dependable company. Im sure its under $25 a year too, you might want to check it out.
susannad 08-06-2002, 10:19 PM I use simpleurl.com $12 a year and point my name anywhere I like.
At the moment I have 100mb space , 4500 transfer a month, (and et.c et.c) for $35 a year
according to my calculations (please correct me if I'm wrong) that comes to $47 a year which is cheaper than $300 a year
