windows Paranoia programmers avoid :) want single price .. and i'll be the software owner
jbuckle 08-06-2002, 03:49 AM LOL
HE asked me todo that.
He wants to OWN the dll's ect so he can do what ever he wanted with them.
IE. use them on all his servers, reseller them ect.
All for $100 LOL
sterlet 08-06-2002, 09:43 AM Paranoia programmers avoid !!
i have no problem in money .. at all ..... not $100
i can pay much much more ....
just want some one work more than he talk
He wants to OWN the dll's ect so he can do what ever he wanted with them.
yes ... i pay to get code and i do what ever i want by the code .. is that not logic in any way ?
jbuckle 08-06-2002, 09:47 AM Im not a Paranoia programmer i just don't sign away my work.
Look at a large % of all windows programs and find one that is for sale where you own the work. I haven't seen many.
Windows software is done with lisences thats the way it has always been!!!!
iseletsk 08-06-2002, 10:14 AM In US, when you are hired to write some software project (any platform), and get paid for it, if you don't specify in the contract that you will retain the ownership of the software, the software will be owed by the person who paid you for you work.
I think the term is "work for hire". You are paid to get the work done, and the result of your work is owned by the company who hired you.
jbuckle 08-06-2002, 10:19 AM Thats all well and good. But when your writing COM's (dll's) They are usualy sold on a per server basis!
iseletsk 08-06-2002, 10:23 AM Once again, make sure you put it into the contract. Otherwise, based on the US law, it will be owned by the person who hires you to do it. Speak to your lawyer, but as much as I know, this is always the case, when you are hired to do specific job.
jbuckle 08-06-2002, 10:25 AM Yes i sayed that.
I was agreeing on a price and he said he wanted to own the scripts ect.
I sayed it will be on a per server basis.
He would not accept that.
Then i sayed unlimited servers but you can resell it. He sayed i was a "windows Paranoia programmer".
sterlet 08-06-2002, 10:31 AM i think what iseletsk said is the more logical and acceptable.
i'm not against you personally jbuckle.
but simply i dont care about your dlls and coms .. i want my work done by dll by C++ by ASP by PHP by whatever ..
i'll not use your code to be millioner :) ,,, do you think that i'll do ?
just dont want to bother myself later in lisences and such headaches.
and over all .. my project - in my openion - is very small .. not worth the time spent in chating
by the way .. i'm in love with Linux
jbuckle 08-06-2002, 10:35 AM well the dsn needs to be done in a dll.
This is because DSN's are stored in the registery and asp can't access the registery without dll's (com's)
I just don't want my code being used by anyone else other than the person i sell it to!!!!
iseletsk 08-06-2002, 10:36 AM The point is: it is posible to do it both ways, but by default, ownership belongs to the person who pays for the development. Other cases that I did:
1) Ownership is retained by the developer, and the client gets licenses (unlimited or not) to use the software
2) Ownership is retained by the developer, and the client gets unrestricted internal license (can modify the code)
3) Ownership is retained by both developer & client (means they both can modify it, sell it to other parties).
Yet, if you want to do any of thouse cases, you need the contract, otherwise, it is owned by the client.
This terms can be applied to the whole software, or parts of the software, yet if you want to do it for specify part - you have to define the part in the contract.
sterlet 08-07-2002, 10:34 AM still wait for any mature offer
jbuckle 08-07-2002, 11:46 AM Don't think you will find anyone. Not for that type of lisence.
sterlet 08-07-2002, 01:11 PM Found many ... but not from WHT in fact .. i got them from elance.com bids started from $75 :D
programmer found and post closed
