Hey all :)

I've just bought a dedicated server in Atlanta, Georgia, and I would like to sell game servers from it. I'd like some feedback as to what sort of market there is for gaming servers in the US, (I'm from the UK) and what kind of prices would be fair?

Also, I'd like to know how many game servers I could probably fit on the server? Spec is:

1.6 GHZ Intel
1 GB DDR RAM
Connections to tier 1 via all top providers

Thanks,
steve :D

Hey Steve you should really research this on your own as all game engines take different amount of resources. You may want to take amount of resources/monthyprice * markup percentage.

And i have seen some game servers go for outrageous prices

first you need to know you'll NEVER sell your servers to uk customers cause your pings will be too slow

if you sell to us customers, let's say you sell counter strike servers. on your server you'll be able to run approximately 5-6 cstrike servers (20 players on each).

Each server can be sold approx $30 EUR30

see http://www.gameservers.nl/general.php for example of prices ...

The market is dominated by about three main providers and I haven't seen competitors doing so well.

Depends what game servers/services you want to resell...

Are you looking forward for counter strike? Or something similar?

Well there is alot of competetion in the market.. here's a short list.

those are about the top of the stack. when it comes to amount of servers, quality of connections and decent service.

i wish you the best of luck.. but there are about 30 more host's out there..

Actually artofwar is the only big company out of those....most have relatively few customers.

I run 5 Unreal Tournament gameservers myself. I-Lan is a huge company in the gameserver rental business in addition to Art of War Central. As for the total number of servers a machine will handle, it depends on the specific game. You would need to research each one. It's also a good idea to check the competitor's forums for more information. $30 is a very low price for a 20 player server. You will see that most hosts charge that for an 8 player. I would checkout their prices and then knock some money off that while still being profitable. It's a good idea to start off small because it's very time consuming business. Good luck!

Search this board. There was a guy talking who had a friend who did a game server(big one as I recall). Anyhow, he listed how he used different providers for different ISP(like aol) and some other details. not sure what would be the best terms to use to search, but try game servers and see what comes up.
