View Full Version : Can anyone recommend a good shopping cart?

We are currently offering Agora Shopping Cart to our hosting clients. This cart seems to be ok, but it is very hard to setup and not real pretty. All in all, it is kinda 'clunky' ( I have no idea how to spell clunky! :o ) I am having more support issues with Agora than I prefer to have.

Anyway, I was hoping someone could suggest a cart that I can offer my clients that is very easy to setup and pleasing on the eye. I am looking for a reasonably priced (prefer free!) cart that does not have individual licensing fees for each domain.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Best regards,
David Harris

Store front is very easy to setup and really inexpensive for what you get. Put it this way, its so easy to operate that my buddy's mom made her own shopping cart. Go to powersurge.net's first page and on the left hand side of your screen there is a icon for storefront now, I'm sure you'll love as much as i do!

Thanks for the reply, Mikepd. Storefront looks real nice, but what I am looking for is something I can install on my servers for my clients to use; not a service that I have to pay for each client. I want to pay for it once, and then install it and allow my users to use it. I am offering the cart for free, so paying per client will not work.

Storefront want to charge me for each client that uses the cart.

Any other suggestions?

Best regards,
David Harris

Once again, this is a single user license product. I emailled them in hopes that they can sell me an unlimited use license, but I am not optimisitc about this. I need a cart that I can buy ONCE, and then install for my clients for free on an unlimited basis.

I just noticed that you gave me 2 suggestions - I was referring to merchantorderform in this post. I am looking into commerce.cgi now!

Any other ideas??

Thanks for the replies so far....

osCommerce is a fine cart: http://www.oscommerce.com

The only issue with it is searchengines. Current issue with it apparently is session ID's and the fact SE's don't accept cookies, therefore don't map with whole site past default.php. Beyond that however the new development version, which is stable enough for commercial use, is very, very good.

*edit* and yes, it's free.

MOF has an 'unlimited' license for $295 - scroll farther down the pricing page to see additional packages.

I use http://www.merchantorderform.com/ but wouldn't recommend them if you need any support at all. Myself and a few others I know of, haven't heard from the writer of the program in months, it seems like he dropped off the face of the earth. He was supposed to release a new version in May/June according to his website update, but that never even happened....

Luckily my web designer and myself didn't really need any support from him, even though I did have a few minor questions early on which went completely unanswered. If I would of known that would be the case, I would of bought the $29.95 "supportless" version instead of the version which allegedly included support for $49.95, which they've since discontinued on their site....

Good luck,

David

After using three different shopping carts including X-Cart and OS Commerce for various customers. Having the frustration and long hours of trying to fit the cart into the look of the site I tried out SquirrelCart from www.squirrelcart.com

It took me an hour to learn how to set it up and load it onto the server. About 10 minutes of that was spent creating a skin page for the cart. Quite simply the skin was created from the existing index page and a few lines of code dropped in from the shopping cart.

I tested their support with a couple of questions and they replied within the hour. They also have a forum which is monitored by the support team.

The price for a single licence is $69 but you can purchase an unlimited licence for $289.00 and set up as many customers as you like.

Note that the cart does not have all the bells and whistles of X-Cart and OS Commerce and I am not trying to downgrade those two programs. It is however easy to set up and simple for a novice customer to maintain. You will need PHP and a MySql database to run it.
