View Full Version : CyberWings Synopsis
Lord MJ 08-05-2002, 01:25 PM I've haven't looked into the CyberWings issue so much, so could somebody here be nice enough to give a brief synopsis of what transpired at that company. From what I hear it was the Web hosting equivalent of Enron, WorldCom, Adelphia, etc, etc.
One of the reasons I'm asking this is that I'm planning on entering the Web Hosting Market, and as manager of a web hosting business I want to know what NOT to do.
Lord MJ 08-05-2002, 02:05 PM Well I read a pretty decent article detailing what happened with CW. Didn't anwser all my questions, but it was still pretty good.
NodeHost 08-05-2002, 02:10 PM Well, pretty much you hit it on the head.
They crashed, they had poor support (by what I am told by former customers), and various other issues.
You can do a search on this forum for Cyberwings and get a monitor full of information of actual problems and comments.
Bobola 08-06-2002, 02:04 AM This sums it up, I think:

UnkleMunky 08-07-2002, 11:15 PM Haaaaa....that was a great video.....definitely puts a summary of it there for us. Too funny not to enjoy!
BTW....to see more of the summary of things, Patrick Grote has a 3rd article in his CW coverage as well...just posted:
http://www.compunotes.com/OpinionSection/webhostingdown3.htm
His two former articles remain there too:

Besides Laurie's site, http://cyberwingsowesmemoney.com/ , you could also check at Yepo for details: http://yepo.com/
That should help a little bit in filling in the gaps on what has and hasn't happened in this case(so far).
Take care...

Vestus 08-08-2002, 12:38 PM Unfortunately, reading all that by his ex-friend makes me more inclined to believe he actually wrote this bit o crap:
FS: $5 Secret Kit (alt.forsale) (http://groups.google.ca/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=golden+fleece+%22Shawn+J.+White+%22&btnG=Google+Search)
Its also odd what you can find when you search for cyberwings + money (http://groups.google.ca/groups?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=cyberwings+money&sa=N&tab=wg&meta=) .
I'm fortunate to have spent relatively little on my CW acct. To me, it feels more like I bought admission tickets to watch Titanic. You know its sinking, but its what happens on the way down that makes the story interesting. I pity the poor fools who actually work there and might not get paid.

scsi_guru 08-08-2002, 11:08 PM Did anyone get their site back up with CW?? I left early in the game and found a new host...
Mine went back up...I was ticket #20...Now that server is full, and supposedly the rest are offline due to a "cabling issue".
Vestus 08-09-2002, 10:15 AM hehe.. yeah.. They have cables but no server to attach them too. They've given me a wallet issue. I have the wallet, but its missing some money.

The Flash is Just wonderful!
But guys ! C'mon ...
Leave him alone, I can understand you guys. It's really hard to pay and don't get any penny of what you paid for in services. But that would be good lesson for eveyone who's looking for cheap hosts.
You get what you pay for.
