This question has probably been asked for about a zillion times, but webhosters renew all the time so i'll ask again :P

Iam looking for a reliable host containing:
- Fast reliable hosting and uptime
- mydomain.com registered at MY name (yes i wanne be the owner)
- At least 10GB/month (i prefer more)
- No tricks like, http://www.mydomain.com isn't the same as http://mydomain.com
- Extra bandwith should be cheap (i probably wouldn't use any since i probably have enough of 5GB's a month, but i just don't wanne take the risk).
- I don't wanne be surprised by bills cause some sites are hotlinking my images, files and stuff. So they need to have some stats thingy where i can see how mutch bandwith i used. (like on brinkster, but brinkster payd hosting is 2 slow).
- Some provider provide have an option to turn down your account for the rest of the month when u exeeded the maximum bandwith for that month, they'll mail u if u want to buy extra bandwith for your site for that month. If i say for example 2GB's they turn on the account again till the 2 GB's are done. (doesn't have to be something like this, cause i know it would be hard work for the hosting provider, but i still don't wanne be surprised by huge bills).
- Give me a chance to fix stuff. If someone used my forum to post a warez link and i didn't notice it in time (i will mostly) don't kick me inmidiatelly. Gimme a time to fix it. So i can delete the post and ban the user. Same goes if one of my scripts isn't working fine and is using 2 mutch cpu time, iam just intending to have a quality site about computers and so on. But i been kicked by my last provider, cause some jurk posted a porn image on my forum. I didn't notice in 15 hours so my account got closed. And the money was gone (i payed for 12months, it got closed afther 2 months).

That's about it, a lot of request cause my last hosting was so bad..

Soz for my bad English, but iam form the Netherlands and so english isn't my main language.

No tricks like, http://www.mydomain.com isn't the same as http://mydomain.com

That's not a trick, that's just a host setting up your serveralias incorrectly.

Anyways, try the request forum, you'll find something that's to your liking, I'm sure. :)

I think you did a fine job posting in english.
What you are asking for is not unreasonable, and you should have no problems getting it for about $10 to $15 a month.
Here is the URL for the shared hosting offers:

I used for help out on the ikonboard and phpbb forums, and can tell you that brinkster does indeed suck. So does netfirms, and others that have both free accounts and paid ones. They want you to upgrade to their paid plans, yet they don't give you the proper service that a paid account should have.
Here is a quick "stay away from" list:
Hosts that offer both free and paid accounts.
Hosts that offer unlimited space or bandwidth. (if you have a limit, you know what you are getting)
Hosts that promise something you never heard of before. (you probably never heard of it, because no respectable host will offer it)
Hosts that advertise on ebay. (if they are reputable, they shouldn't have to sink to that level of digging up customers that want everything for nothing. Even if nothing is wrong with the hosting, at the very least, these ebay customers will suck up all the hosts support time.)
Hosts that put false information on their domain registration. (lie once = lie many times)

Oh, and by the way, get your own domain registered by a registrar, and not a host. Many hosts are cool, but some are not, and you want to have full ownership and control should anything go wrong. Look for one that lets you change nameservers all by yourself without having to email them and wait for them to do it.

Good luck.

There are many reputable hosts ic3d out there that you should be more than happy with that fit your budget.

As for exceeding bandwidth... Yes, some have a "cap" which renders your site useless if you go over the allotted monthly amount. I don't like this personally.

It's better to sign up with a host and get a better plan than you may need so that you shouldn't have any problems with storage space or bandwidth usage. Plus, some of the better hosting providers will honor the plan specifics that you originally signed up for even if they raise their hosting fees. Another words, your plan is locked as long as your a client with them and keep the same plan.

Overcharges... Generally speaking, it seems that $3 - $4 per gig is the fee for extra bandwidth. I have seen a couple hosts that charge $1 but that's rare. Also be careful as some host sell bandwidth in "blocks." For example, this means that if you go over by only .5 gig you could be billed for 10 gigs, not one.

As for being shut down because of what a member posted goes; I think that was a bit harsh especially being you paid for a years worth of hosting. I suggest that you pay monthly as it's usually not worth the potential problems paying yearly.

Some may disagree but this is how I feel.

I think you did a fine job posting in english. ty :)

Here is a quick "stay away from" list:
Hosts that offer both free and paid accounts. did know
Hosts that offer unlimited space or bandwidth. (if you have a limit, you know what you are getting) i hate those
Hosts that promise something you never heard of before. (you probably never heard of it, because no respectable host will offer it) yeps iam dutch not a fool ;)
Hosts that advertise on ebay. (if they are reputable, they shouldn't have to sink to that level of digging up customers that want everything for nothing. Even if nothing is wrong with the hosting, at the very least, these ebay customers will suck up all the hosts support time.) didn't know that
Hosts that put false information on their domain registration. (lie once = lie many times) i always check that

Oh, and by the way, get your own domain registered by a registrar, and not a host. Many hosts are cool, but some are not, and you want to have full ownership and control should anything go wrong. Look for one that lets you change nameservers all by yourself without having to email them and wait for them to do it.
Why i wanted to have a host for me to register, is because i don't have a creditcard and since iam a student i don't have the income to have a creditcard. Most registars will only accept a cc as a payment method, exept for the dutch/belgium one's, but they often ask $70 (USD) a year for a domainname. And afther that i still don't know how to combine these. I don't want a redirect, but a full domain, so i'll have mydomain.com/example/example.html instead of only one redirect to the mainpage. But i guess google will bring me the answer of this question. It's just iam a total noob with 'real' domain hosting.

Good luck. ty :)

i just need about 10MB and opputunities to grow, iam working on a forum on it, and i would need the space if the forum and the news database expands but that will last for a while since it's hard to get an empty forum started.

aha the old credit card problem

I don't have a credit card either and I'm not a student !!

I tried one host in UK last year who allowed cheques by snail mail, sounded OK but if you ever hear of a host by the name of Directoris .. stay away from them, they lost my files, they don't answer emails, they don't answer support .. it's like I never existed

Now I use a friend's credit card (for another host of course) and just give her the cash, she often gets deals on the amount of money that goes through her credit card

it worlks out very well for both of us

P.S. like every one I have met from the Netherlands, you speak english very well
