View Full Version : How important is your name?
Bannaz 08-05-2002, 07:20 AM I don't tend to make nor take part in any kind of discussions presented at this lounge, as I see myself more towards the business sides of WHT when dealing with people. As I hover around this place, I do see people talking "normally", and I am more than intrigued to get involved! :D
Anyway, I thought to myself, how about starting a topic about your company name (yup, business again, I can't help it, heh).
So, how important is your company name to you? Do you find it sends shivers down your spine when you see it in text on the internet, or cry out when you hear it spoken by an unknown individual?
How do you feel about the future with your name, would you believe in changing to something different when you pass that "mega business" line, or is the name you thought up in that dark room the one to stick with, for life!
Anyway, just my imagination moving more deeply into its unsettled mode...I'd love to hear your responses! :D
Best Regards,
Leigh Hewitt.
tazd9t9 08-05-2002, 07:39 AM im thinking of starting a new hosting company because my company name is too similar to one with a bad rep who is banned on these forums and even my mate sometimes says hows ******** doing so i dont want to be associated with them in any way.
Reptilian Feline 08-05-2002, 07:47 AM My name is very important to me. I might add things to it, but the basic part should still be recognized.
I like my name. I have had it for four years.
People say my name all the time without even knowing it, so I guess that makes it a "household" word.
Who am I? (just kidding - don't take this offtopic to guess)
Anyway, I'm keeping it.
StarGate 08-05-2002, 11:21 AM I came up with the name "Star Gate" in late 1994 and I had NOT seen the movie "Star gate" or it wasn't even out then. This name is very important to me an dI am glad I found it in the .hm registry so I could have it on the web too.
NodeHost 08-05-2002, 12:16 PM Would not give up my name for nothing. It is weird! On our trucks, when people see the name Node Hosting at a short glance, we get them running up to us saying, "What is Nude Hosting"? Gotta laugh....
edude 08-05-2002, 12:23 PM So what is nude hosting? ;)

Bannaz 08-05-2002, 03:08 PM hehe, so moving more into this topic, with your logo you have now, has that been since you started? Or has there been others and you are happy with the exact one you have now, and that is it for life? ..or, do you feel that there may be changes down the line?
(note. Logo Designers, please don't turn this thread into any sort of business venture! ;))
This will be interesting.

We've made several changes. My co. has been online since 1997 and we've made at least one or two changes per year. Haven't found that definitive logo yet. Oh, well...:)
NodeHost 08-05-2002, 03:28 PM Ok, we love our logo, BUT, we would like to change it about once every couple of years, just for "spice".
Although, the one we have used is 2 years old, and we have no plans to change it, so really, I DON'T KNOW! Now you are making my head hurt......
 Leave it alone! That is what I will do, leave it alone! Yea, Yea.....
Ok, back to reality.....
ned patter 08-05-2002, 04:19 PM We are talking about names right?.
My names although i don't own any company are Hunterhill and leithers and i'm proud of them;) .
don't nick that Hunterhill one, i know you love it.
Reptilian Feline 08-06-2002, 02:55 AM I'm working on a coat of arms that I will use as a logo, but I don't have much time to do it, so...
VescotUK 08-06-2002, 04:00 AM Company names are very important, however, my brother for some reason wants the horriblest name you can think of, I mean, dynamitehost.com (lol), geez.
Sounds more like a site for selling dynamite to terrorists. lol.
Reptilian Feline 08-06-2002, 04:41 AM Dynamite Host - the host with the bang!
Dynamite Host - lets your creativity explode!
Make your mark in cyberspace - host with Dynamite Host!
I'm good at slogans;)
cyansmoker 08-06-2002, 05:10 AM When we founded our company, we felt that 'voilaweb' was a great name, because 'voila' seems to be a word that sneaked its way in many languages, plus my wife is french.
And, well, basically: 'your site online..? voila!'
So we were quite happy but had very few customers. We could not understand why until we realized that most people will spell it 'vIOlaweb'.
That's when we started hostinggroup.com :D
Reptilian Feline 08-06-2002, 05:22 AM A very good point. Make it easy to spell and easy to read.
Bannaz 08-06-2002, 01:18 PM Yeah, I think the main points to take into consideration when deciding upon a name you want known is to make it easy to read, remember, and the spelling suits that minority who can't spell ;) ie. its easy to spell! :D
